Very lovely place to stay. The children enjoyed feeding the animals and we all enjoyed going into the wood when no one else was around. The cottage was well equipped and clean. The only slight negative was that the towel rail didn't work in the bathroom. Would have been handy to dry our towels and other damp clothes on. We found the site extremely clean and tidy and loved the cat!

Tips:

Clearwell Caves, Symmonds Yat, Monmouth.

Beautiful place to visit for a holiday. Cottage's up to high standards. Clean and very comfortable have everythink u need in them. The staff are very friendly and go out of there way to help you with anythink. The woods in puzzlewood are magical like nothing ive ever seen before. Lovely to take a walk in early in morn and evening. And the local family cat called banksy very friendly often visited us in are cottage and even escorted us while we took a walk in woods. Would definitely recommend puzzlewood to all my family and friends as a must place to visit. Will definitely be going back again.

Tips:

Local town of coleford very close. Large local coop store for shopping. The local pizza place called Milano great value for money. And very tasty. 15miles from coleford is raglan castle. Lovely place to visit where they filmed tv merlin. Mile down the road from coleford is clear well caved another great place to visit. Also a walk in forrest of dean and going to view point at symonds yat and symonds yat east down by the rive. BBeautiful views and walks also can go on river boat trip. Roughly 8 miles away another place to visit is st briavels castle.

Lovely cottage, well thought out living area. Comfy bedrooms. Great bathrooms with super showers. All we needed for a family time away together. We only went off site once, to a pre arranged Wedding party at nearby Clearwell. Had everything on site we needed, the little ones loved all the activities.

Tips:

Everything you need on site, ( grocery shop in nearby coleford ) Plenty of lovely forest walks. Great place to relax.

25th June 2017:

We had a great holiday at Puzzlewood, the kids loved feeding the animals & it was fabulous being able to explore the wood outside of opening hours. The house was very nicely decorated and appointed, the only negative being the double bed upstairs as it was very creaky and could do with being updated as the rest of the house has been. We also felt that Puzzlewood as a tourist attraction could do more to promote itself; the souvenirs are fairly simplistic - there are some gorgeous photos in the house - sell copies! Also no mention of the more high profile films that have been filmed there. But you can't beat the wood itself, so unique & fun. Kids are asking to go back already!

Tips:

We loved Clearwell Caves, the J K Rowling link fascinated the kids and we enjoyed the fact we could go round by ourselves with no guide. A cave first! Goodrich Castle & Chepstow Castle are recommended - & Chepstow itself is lovely for a wander - but don't bother with the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail - very disappointing. Symonds Yat didn't take long, but offers lovely views. The Co-op in Coleford is very useful, but the town itself isn't very exciting. We enjoyed Gloucester Quays, there was a tall ship festival going on which was lucky, but if you like shopping it's very good anyway, and a trip to Tintern Abbey is worth doing. Very pretty. Ye Old Ferrie Inn at Symonds Yat is a lovely pub; great river views & really good food. Narrow road to get there though!

3rd June 2017:

Beautiful setting with a cottage functional for a family of 4. The use of Puzzlewood out of visiting hours makes this really special. I would recommend the cottage - the only thing that could be improved is the addition of a shelf or small unit over the sink in the bathroom so toiletries can be to hand and also a towel rail/hooks.

Tips:

Must dos are: Symonds Yat (use main car park and walk down) The Wye Kingfisher cruise from Symonds Yat East The 9 mile family cycle trail from Beechenhurst - amazing downhills Stop at the cafe at Beechenhurst too as the food is very good and try Tree Top Junior which has a great zip wire A river walk along the Wye at Ross on Wye with a pub lunch at The Royal or the Hope & Anchor The steam train from the main station stopping at Parkend with a pub lunch at the Fountain Inn

Very welcoming staff and easy communication. House was lovely, beautifully presented and well equipped. I would suggest corner protectors on the glass table if visitors included young children. Otherwise a fantastic stay.

Tips:

Great places to visit were Clearwell caves. Everyone enjoyed this day out including ages 3 to 55! Lydney harbour was lovely. The children particularly enjoyed the rock climbing. I would also recommend a fantastic farm shop called Henley farm shop in Chepstow. Amazing local produce including cheeses, meat and deli foods. Gear gifts there too.

Maybe a coffee table for the lounge and a large standing lamp? I feel sure you used to have these things, but maybe I am misremembering. A new bin for the toilet. Some parts of the wall need a touch-up with plastering and painting. A few more animals? We miss Lulu and the micro-pigs! The wood is very special and will bring us back to you.

Tips:

Clearwell caves are really very interesting. We enjoyed our time in Beechenhurst as well. The kids liked the Perrygrove railway when they were younger.

Lovely place to stay, great for walking round the wood when no one else is there. Puzzlewood House has recently been renovated to a very high standard and has all the mod cons you need.

Tips:

Feeding the animals is very enjoyable but probably more appropriate for children than adults. Whilst Coleford is only a 15/20 minute walk, there is no proper path for part of this, so not really possible to do in the dark.

Lovely place to stay - nice cottage, lovely woods, the maze provided quite a bit of entertainment, and loads of things to do within 10-15 minutes drive. Would definitely recommend. Tv a bit funny - not very responsive to remote control, and hum from dvd player. (And I couldn't find the tv guide on it - but not exactly disastrous!) Window blinds kept on 'breaking' (plastic clips kept on unclipping) - I had to fix them a few times. Curtains?

Tips:

GoApe great for children (6-15), bike hire Beechenhurst, trains opposite, Goodrich castle, Chepstow castle, Tintern Abbey. If you are tall, bend down going through doors in the cottage...
