19th April 2019:

Deanswood is an absolutely amazing place to stay, we stay as often as we can! It is always immaculate, the grounds, kitchen area and toilets are so well kept. The owners obviously take a lot of pride in their site and it is a pleasure to be there. They're always very friendly and accomadating. A perfect getaway for a child free relaxing break in perfect peace!

Tips:

There are many attractions a short drive away such as puzzlewood and perrygrove train station.we just enjoy the walks through the forest and a visit to the docks. A very lovely cafe, the postage stamp cafe.. which served a delicious and filling breakfast and a decent price. We are slowly finding our way arou d but are figuring out there are some nice hidden gems if you search! Local pub the miners arms served a lovely dinner nicely portioned and not too pricey.well cooked in a nice location! Really enjoy our stay each time, and I am sure next time we will find even more goodies!

The site was easy to book, and the information sent back was invaluable for directions etc. The site is in a lovely quiet spot with great views. The facilities for us and the dog where also great. We will be staying again and hopefully bringing other family members who also have a caravan.

Tips:

A visit to the Railway museum is very interesting. The staff are all friendly and the food is great value with a good choice. A nice walk in a lovely setting is Cannop Lakes not far from the camp site about 20 minutes drive.

Please could you improve the water pressure in the showers, especially the lower block. Also, a couple of degrees warmer may be worth considering. This was our second stay and was even better than the first, thank you. Bill & Janet Tony & Myriam

Tips:

Just enjoy the forest, but make sure you know where you are. We would reccomend, Map + Compass & GPS or OS app for your phone Plenty to do and see!!

1st October 2018:

This was the second visit to the site in a few months. We used this as a base for walking in the Wye Valley between Monmouth and Chepstow but also is ideally located for the Forest of Dean and its many attractions. The site is well laid out and very well maintained. You will find John very helpful. We camp in a bell tent without an electrical hook-up. As there are understandable restrictions on open fires a communal fire pit area might be a good idea. This would provide a focal point in the evenings and an opportunity to get to know other campers.

Tips:

The Rising Sun is just down the road (by car). The Nags Head is within walking distance and has a nice garden but is pretty basic with a limited ‘pub’ menu.

27th September 2018:

Deanwood is one of the best campsites we have visited. They advertise as being dog friendly and they certainly are and provide a huge, stock fenced field for the dogs to run free. Everything has been well thought out for campers, water taps and facilities close to where you camp, washing up and freezer for a few bits, washing machine/tumble dryer and great idea of designated cupboard for lost and found items if you leave something in the showers or anywhere when they clean up they pop it in there and you can pick it up. The little hedges between pitches give a lovely feel to the site and are well spaced apart. The staff are very helpful and keep everything spotless without you even noticing they are doing it. We went in September and not many people there as it is getting towards the end of the tent camping season but they still cleaned the facilities daily and paid attention to keeping everything right for us few campers. The only thing I would change is the showers which have a push button timer which is too short so you have to keep pushing the button whilst trying to juggle slippery shampoo bottles. I know that water saving features are great but as an adult only site it would be nice to have a shower and be trusted to turn it off when finished.or just have a bit longer on the timer button. Having said that it is the perfect campsite for everything else and we will be going back again.

Tips:

If you want a dog walking holiday it is perfect, just walk right off the campsite for miles of forest or in the car within 10 minutes we did Cannop Ponds, Speech House Lake, Mallards Pike Lake, Soudley Ponds, New Fancy and loads more. Lydney and Cinderfoot are close for shopping.

We booked our weekend stay last minute after finding the campsite through a third party site and what a wonderful find it was!! Lovely laid out well kept site with clean toilet/shower block and exceptional views from the pitch. Would definitely stay again. Received a clear email on booking giving directions to the site and then to the pitch when we arrived as the owners wouldn't be around for our arrival. They came to find up later to make sure that we had settled in and found everything we needed.

Tips:

Although you can ride into the forest directly from site our children drove to the cycle centre at Cannop so that they could use the marked out runs. We went on a couple of circular walks at Tintern and Speech house. We found small write ups for both in a brochure in the campsite information hut and then downloaded PDFs for both that we could use whilst out. There was a lovely wooded dog walk directly from the campsite too so no need to go anywhere in the car if you didn't want to.

Polite friendly staff gave clear information and assistance. We were there for a large group 60 th birthday in Yorkley, unfortunately the families with teenagers were not able to stay at the campsite with us as it is adults only which was a shame. The site has beautiful views and is peaceful and quiet without children and welcomes dogs, suitable for touring, walkers and just relaxing in a beautiful location.

Tips:

There is no shop on site but a local spar type shop in Yorkley 10 mins away for groceries, lovely walks local pubs in walking distance and the Rising Sun is particularly nice in the middle of the forest.

The site seemed too good to be true when we found it on line, especially considering the very reasonable price, which included WiFi, awning, washing machine etc that are so often charged extra. After a week on site we can confirm that it is exactly as described. Fantastic for the dogs, with a great off lead exercise area on site plus immediate access to the forest directly from the site. It was really quiet with spotless facilities. There were lots of fantastic walks plus places to visit nearby. We have already booked to go back.

Facilities and cleanliness of the campsite was perfect, and the welcome from the owners great. We arrived on the Thursday, and the Thursday morning and Friday night were peaceful and relaxing. It was unfortunate on the Friday that quite a few caravans turned up, who seemed to be together and therefore the Friday evening was not so quite and relaxing and actually one of your other guests had to go and ask them to be quiet past 10.30 pm as they could be heard around the camp site. This was a bit unfortunate. Great welcome for dogs also and having the woods right next door to walk them first thing and last thing in the day was very helpful.

Tips:

Puzzlewood is a nice afternoon walk and Sculpture Trail is a bit more challenging. The end Lydney Harbour was a nice stroll. For those who are not easily offended, and I really mean it, Littledean Jail is one of the most unusual, disturbing and weird collection I’ve ever seen. Not for kids. The collection of Holocaust, Crime and naughty bits are not for the faint hearted but I’m glad I Didn’t miss it.

Great site absolutely spotlessly clean. Really well organised with plenty of facilities. The views over the forest are spectacular. The only slight downside is that the WiFi is not good but that is a small issue when compared to the overwhelmingly positive impressions that you come away with.

Tips:

We enjoyed cycling in the forest on the family trail which was clearly signposted. We also had a nice day on the Forest of Dean railway. Just check the timetable for when it is running.

The site is very well run and we were approached by staff to check that everything was ok which is reassuring. Facilities are excellent and the site is well maintained.

Tips:

The whole locality is full of interesting things to see and do but the Forest of Dean is literally on the doorstep. We didn't eat locally during our short stay so cannot advise on restaurants etc but there are towns nearby with all facilities.

Great campsite, easy on arrival and stay. Felt professional but comfortable and very friendly. Perfectly quiet and calm.

Tips:

The forest just out of the campsite was perfect for walks. Depending on how far someone is willing to travel: there are plenty of castles to visit; we ventured as far as Caerleon to see the Roman baths and amphitheatre; Tintern abbey is an all time favourite, with a nice walk across the Wye and up to Devils pulpit for some great views. A little closer to home was clearwell caves and puzzle wood.

Another great stay, apart from the horrendous weather which you cannot be held responsible for. My only criticism is that the showers were not hot enough, I imsagine that this is because the weather had been hot and had suddenly taken a turn for the worse. However, the showers were, at best, warm to mildly hot and really needed to be turned up. I only used the lower shower block

Lovely view. All facilities beautifully clean, fresh and attention to detail such as checking adequate toilet rolls regularly. One of the best sites we have been to. Spotless, large pitches and views to die for. Appreciate the late arrival time, as the access road is very narrow. Friendly staff and very helpful. Will be returning.

Tips:

Great walks in the forest, straight out of the site, but further in, not all the footpaths have either been cleared, or few previous walkers, and easy to get part way along before having to turn around. However, walking is superb, and easy to spend the whole day without bumping into anyone else. We managed to walk 25 miles over 2 1/2 days. Several pubs within walking distance, and easy to get to Norchard Railway with free museum

A fantastic site. Clean, well ordered, high standard of toilet/shower and kitchens, generous pitch sizes, well maintained, friendly and helpful staff. We particularly liked the adults only plus dogs and quietness aspects. We were there when only a quarter full and also when full and there was no noise differences. Everyone we spoke to staying were impressed and intended to return. Families need sites full of activity but adults wanting a quiet and tranquil setting need something different, which is offered at this site.

Tips:

Unfortunately, we didn’t find any places to eat close by to recommend. We were hoping to find wild boar on menus but were disappointed! The walking in the forest was the main attraction for us.

Tips:

Quite a few things to do in the area. Lakes and woods to walk, great sights around the river Wye, especially Symonds Yat Rock and Symonds Yat East and West with nice pubs for a meal. Loved the Butterfly Zoo and Go Ape and area. Did a couple of trips into Wales which is not far away.

Thank you for taking the time to review our campsite. Reviews are very helpful to us. The showers are set to the 'factory standard' timing. We have looked into whether a replacement valve could be purchased which would allow the showers to stay on for a longer time but unfortunately these are not available. Thankfully we don't charge for the showers so although it may be annoying having to keep pressing the button at least it isn't costing you! The showers I use at the swimming pool in Lydney are the same and I find the easiest way to turn them on again is to lean on them with my back. Hope this helps!

Even though I always look for adult only and dog friendly sights as I always take my dog with me it’s disappointing when other people let there dogs loose on site. The only issue we had was a new arrival next to us letting there dog off lead to roam where ever and they didn’t pick up the mess it left on our pitch so we nearly stood in it when we arrived back to site then we had to pick it up. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay here and our wonderful location. I was sorry to read though about your neighbours allowing their dog to roam on your pitch, to foul on it, and then to not pick it up. There really is no excuse for that. That is not acceptable nowadays, we have plenty of Doggy Poo bins about and the dog shouldn't have been there in the first place. I will ask John to try and keep a closer eye out for this happening.

Very disappointing this time. A single sex group of 10 to 12 males had been allowed who generally spoilt the peace and quiet and in particular played loud music and shouted and jeered as they got more and more drunk as the evening went on. They broke just about every rule. So desperate that we phoned site owners at midnight as not quietening down (voices getting louder and louder in proportion to alcohol consumed) but not at all helpful - said everyone's perception of noise is different (this was like people having very loud (and offensive) conversation in our tent although they were 20 -30 yards away) and said we could speak to them. Disgusted - with no authority I would not expect to have to face up to 12 drunk offensive men. Finally went quiet 15 12.53 am (not 22.30 0r even 23.30). Got a few hours sleep. Felt abandoned by owners ("just gone to bed myself"). Lots of people talking about it next morning. What a shame - such a lovely place with excellent facilities and I would always have said so well run. Loved it last time. Spoiled the weekend.

Unfortunately they didn't quieten down completely and maybe even got noisier again after John left :( We have taken on board your comments and are reviewing our policies as we do want to be a quiet, peaceful, site.

Only downside for us is the 2'oclock arrival time as feel day over by time set up. Most sites been on are 12'oclock arrival. This was stated twice on booking form so arriveed after 2 as asked. However arrived back to site following friday after walk to find 2 camper vans and a tent fully set up and outside drinking so guess they arrived between 12 & 12.30.

Owner Response:

I am glad you enjoyed your stay here. We do, on discretion, allow early arrival from 9am, for which we charge £6 per pitch, the same as for Late Leaving. These guests had booked and paid for that. It is not something that we push and it is not an option when booking on line. The reason for this is, with the approach roads being very narrow, we like the caravans & motorhomes that are leaving on that day to have already left the area before the new guests start arriving - otherwise it can cause a serious bottle-neck!

Absolutely lovely. Showers and toilets immaculate, though water pressure pretty poor but would definitely not stop us from coming here again. The surrounding views are stunning, though we would would warn people this site is situated quite high up, so when entering the forest you go down a pretty steep hill but remember you have to walk back up it on your return! Even if you do struggle leg wise, it's still a lovely place to sit back, chill and enjoy the lovely views across the forest. Of all the walks we made, our favourite was to mallards pike. This we would thoroughly recommend if you have energetic dogs like us, as the reward for them was a nice cooling dip in the lakes at mallards pike. It is quite a challenging walk though. You can also get drinks and food at a mobile catering van, although they were building a hardstanding cafe which is opening at the end of the month. Back around the site, we were fortunate enough to see plenty of wild life including deers, wild boars and numerous birds that I wish I was more knowledgeable to name! Would I return? YES!!! We hope to come back again next summer.

Recommend Nags Head for good quality well priced food and a friendly atmosphere

This is a small quiet campsite placed on a terraced hillside with a wonderful view over the Forest of Dean. The toilet/shower blocks are brand new and kept beautifully clean. There is even a hairdryer. There are two kitchen areas for washing up each with a fridge which campers can use.

Tips:

No pub/restaurant within walking distance was probably the only drawback of this otherwise outstanding site. We ate out at the Fountain Inn and Whitemead Park both just a few miles away in Parkend. Would recommend the Nags Head RSPB nature reserve also near Parkend where we were able to watch wild boar and of course sightseeing along the Wye valley which is nearby.

Some of the pitches are a little in the slope... at the bottom. If the world 2as perfect it would be lovely to get rid of some of the brambles in the bottom field you cant go in so you can see the view better, and whilst the showers worked perfectly well I would have loved a bit more heat :) The site was wonderful and we had a lovely, all be it windy, holiday.

Tips:

The Nags Heat pub is a very local pub that only accepts cash or cheque, so be prepared.

Absolutely superb quality and cleanliness of facilities, particularly shower, toilet, washing up and laundry facilities. Site very quiet and peaceful when we were there. Fantastic views into the forest. Grass all nicely mown, hedges trimmed etc etc. Couldn't recommend site highly enough

Tips:

The two local pubs, whilst friendly, were pretty grim and the food was awful. However, the Woodman Inn at Parkside was much nicer with good beer and food. It's a 5-10 minute drive. The Forest is delightful and there are many sheep strolling around the local streets. On an early (5.45) walk we encountered a group (herd? Flock?) of wild boar strolling around the streets amongst the houses- a sow and at least seven or eight piglets! Nice trips to Wye Valley, Tinturn Abbey, Symonds Yat, Monmouth etc

Warm welcome from John. Felt that anything we needed we just had to ask. Site is immaculate, well kept, clean and tidy. Toilet and shower block looks to be new. Dog exercise field is well fenced and large enough for a proper run around. Plenty of room on the pitches.

Tips:

We were only there for a couple of nights in our camper during some of the warmest weather in May. For walks in the forest you just open the gate on the perimeter fence and you are there! Looks to be good mountain biking country. The Pub at the end of the road was closed on the lunch time that we decided to venture out but the Nags Head was open and served decent pub grub although we only opted for salads. Views from the site across the forest are to die for, and the air is clean and fresh. Definitely number one site to revisit. Adults only is another bonus. We've done the kids stuff before and it's good to get away.

I am sorry that you weren't able to stay the full week. John wasn't aware that you were packing up to go when he was cutting the grass - he kept his distance as he was nervous of your dog which was on a very long tether and had already nipped him twice. The showers switch off so that water is not wasted, but they can always be switched on again - we do not charge any extra for the showers. Elaine

Our stay at Deanwood was our first trip in our campervan and it was great. Although it was very cold and rained ALOT! the facilities were always kept very clean. The dog exercise area is fantastic, allowing for off lead time close to our pitch. Due to the site being adult only there was peace and quiet to enjoy being part of the forest. I even got to see a wild bore! We hope to come back at another time of year to see the Forest change.

Tips:

The sculpture trail nearby offers a good walk for the dogs of lead and plenty of activities and trails for the kids too. Great if you aren't confident to go into the Forest without guidance. Getting our 'fairly' old camper up and down from Symonds Yat East proved to be quite a hassle with few passing spaces, and a very steep climb.

That said, it's within an easy drive of many other places to visit such as the FoD Art Trail (a superb day out) ... or just take a drive, find a layby (there are many) park up and go exploring yourself! If you fancy a day out, Trellech is a 30 min drive with a beautiful ancient well and standing stones and a dog friendly pub with good food :)

A beautifully peaceful and tranquil spot. Just what we needed to recharge our batteries. Our dog thoroughly enjoyed the treks through the forest right on the doorstep. Only downside was nowhere within walking distance to have a nice evening meal but only a minor point. Would highly recommend the site to anyone who truly wants to get away from it all. Excellent!!

Enjoyed Beechenhurst Lodge and the sculpture trail. Good choice of food at the cafe.

We chose this campsite as it was advertised as dog friendly and it certainly was. Loved the fenced off field for them to run free, perfect for first thing in the morning to wander down with a cup of tea and sit on the bench and enjoy the beautiful view while the dogs did their morning romp round the field. Dog poo bin by the gate was appreciated! The grounds were spotless and obviously well looked after as were the shower blocks & toilets. The free washing machine and tumble dryer was a great facility to have. Everything was easy to find, water, bins etc and hookup for electric with your pitch number was great. It is a very nice set up all round, well thought out and kept very clean and tidy. Really enjoyed out stay with you.

Tips:

If you want a place to take your dogs on holiday in the Forest of Dean this campsite is perfect. Forest walks straight off the campsite and lots of lovely other places around 10 mins in the car. We did Mallards Pike Lake, Soudley Ponds, Speech House Arboretum and Lake, Cannop Ponds, The Sculpture Trail just up the road from Speeech House.

Tips:

Very central for our needs . We brought dogs to do alot of walking & swimming - so many places close by . And we ate in - on our stoves every night . Blessed with the weather & super sunsets .For those with dogs the Arberetum & flat walks just off it into the forest is well worth a visit

What a lovely campsite, we couldn't fault it. A few steps and you are in the forest where you could walk all day. The dogs loved chasing through the trees. The site has a large fenced dog run which is excellent for first thing. The views are wonderful, looking across the forest. We were on hard standing at the top of the site. The spaces are huge, giving everyone lots of room. We would definitely return. Thank you for a great few days.

Tips:

2 pubs in the village both walkable distances. The Nags Head had a nice garden with views of the river. Food was very good. There are 2 shops selling most things, 1 is a post office as well. A bus goes to Lydney, but only runs 3 times a day. You can walk from the site through the forest to the Steam railway. ( though I'd advise you to have a good map showing paths) There you can get tickets for the day, dogs are allowed on the train.

This is a lovely clean and well kept site, the staff were very easy to chat with,we were in a motorhome and we were quite happy where we were located on the hard standing at the top of the site, I have read that some campers thought it looked like a carpark but we didn't feel this at all, water and waste were easy to get to, the washing machine and dryer were free to use, our dog loved going straight into the forest ,lovely walks, a field where dogs can be let off the lead, nice views across the forest ,

Tips:

John is a great chap, he will help you out with any problems you may have during your stay. The site is spotless, well maintained. The only two faults we found were 1 the showers. You had to keep pressing the button. 2 the grass could have been a little shorter, but there are lots of plusses for this site, the quietness, the wildlife and the stunning views. Can't wait to book again.

We were welcomed by John who gave us a site map (with the "rules" on the back) as well as a map of the forest paths in the next field. He also told us where to find the local shops and pubs. The site and facilities are both very clean. It was nice to have contact phone numbers for staff available at reception.

Tips:

There is so much to do in this area. Due to the changeable weather we visited castles and only managed short walks. We particularly liked the Angidy Trail (around Tintern)- the leaflet gives accurate directions. However, if you choose to do the Puddingstone and pubs walk (leaflet issued by Wye Valley)you may wish to consult an OS map.

I camped here for 2 nights whilst mountain biking in the Forest of Dean This is a lovely campsite that is super clean. The pitches are clearly marked with generous space. Most have hedge to one side that provides some privacy and shelter. Being adult only the site is amazingly quiet at night. The showers and toilets were modern and very very clean. The showers hot. There are washing up facilities where they even provide free washing up liquid and scourers, not to mention a free washing machine and dryer.

Tips:

Don't expect to buy bread, chips, a paper, sweets or a latte on-site or you face disappointment. No bingo ...Personally I approve! The location is remote and next to a small wood for short walks. The view of the valley is breathtaking. The Forest of Dean can be reached on bike or foot although I soon started driving as the journey is hilly. The Forest of Dean purpose built MTB single track, family trails and practice slopes and extreme sections are first class. Just 12 minutes car journey away. A must visit for anyone who likes knobbly rubber. I only have one very small grumble. The showers have those push button "taps" that you used to get at school. As an adult I did not enjoy stop start showers. There must be better solution?

Tips:

The local pubs were not open for food before 6:30 p.m. When we needed something earlier. The other didn't serve food. There are some good pubs if you don't mind a hike and a steep slope, but well worth it. If you fancy a drive out there are plenty of places to visit and eateries. We find a nice friendly pub The Globe in Berry Hill fairly cheap but excellent food and dog friendly although we sat outside. Will definitely visit again, much more to see and do.

Beautifully kept campsite, catering for all types of unit. Wash facilities are spotless, probably the cleanest and best kept I've ever stayed on. Pitches are well maintained and big enough for even the largest of caravans/tents. Although the site is on a slight slope, the owners have levelled the piches so no "rolling out of bed" problems were encountered. Overall probably the best and most peaceful site I have camped in. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. (Solo camping with a tent. Electric hook up included.)

Tips:

Local pub the Nags Head was within walking distance (approx. 15 minutes) serving good food and we were made to feel very welcome by all the staff and locals. There were some nice tracks through the forest for walking which were accessed by a gate from the campsite. The walk to Lydney town centre wasn't too bad but the return journey was a bit of a task as it's all uphill and takes just over an hour at a steady pace. All in all, we had a very energetic but peaceful weekend and will be returning at some point in the not too distant future.

Fantastic, friendly, secure site......if you are wanting total relaxation with stunning views, and the odd days out, this is the ideal spot!!

Tips:

Clearwell caves, Puzzlewood only a short drive away and worth a visit, as is Tintern Abbey just across the border!! Limited provisions in the local town, however the half mile walk to the village shop/post office and the Bailey Inn pub, will leave you happy, as both are extremely friendly and catered for all our needs!!

Loved the location and views from our tent.John was very helpful with info and directions.Campsite well maintained, ablutions very clean and hot water on tap. only gripe was small caravans directly behind us were very close so a bit noisy when setting up there bed at 11pm on their first night. would definitely go again.

Tips:

Loads to do and see in the forest.Great for bird/deer/hog watching, walking and cycling. Some places are difficult to find as roads not always signposted well.Lots of hidden treasures !Do research before you go. Enjoy.

A small, neat well run park adjacent to the Forest of Dean. Amenities kept immaculately clean despite the challenges of torrential rain on the weekend of our stay. We stayed on a flat grass pitch which drained well despite the aforementioned downpour. The park was quiet with no traffic noise, save for the very occasional sound of steam trains from the Dean Forest railway nearby. Terrible weather notwithstanding, we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning.

A pristine campsite, yet very laid back, nothing too much trouble. Best toilet facilities we've ever had on a site. Highly recommended and it is an adult only site, enhancing the tranquil experience further, dogs welcomed.

Tips:

Plenty of walking into woods from the site, there are cycle tracks at the Forest of Dean but we found the way these are marked can be a little confusing, but worth doing. We will be coming back to this campsite.

Truly beautiful site, stayed for only 3 nights and wished it could have been longer. Quiet and peaceful, over 18's only. Facilities quite basic but modern and clean. Site tidy, looks quite utilitarian with modern barns but looking across to the forest more than makes up. The camping, caravanning and motor home sites are all separate so makes it look spacious. Manager/owner pleasant and helpful.

Tips:

Didnt step off the site except for a walk to the village, with shop & post office, and 2 pubs, but on the map looks convenient for forest type activities.

Re eating out with dogs - both pubs in the village are dog friendly and the Nags Head pub also serves good 'home cooked'food. Quite a few of the pubs in the surrounding villages are also dog friendly e.g. The Rising Sun at Moseley Green and The Fountain at Parkend.

It's very hard to fault this campsite! It was pretty much perfect. If I had to find something, I would say that a hair dryer in the wash room would be good., even if it had a pay meter. It didn't affect me, as I had electric hook up and had my own, but some female campers without electricity did comment that they couldn't dry their hair. Also a little step and path set in the grass of the mound leading up to the washing up room would make a short cut and help the legs! But that's just nit picking. Everywhere was absolutely immaculate, I have never stayed on a site where the facilities were so clean. I would definitely return if camping in this area and would highly recommend the site. Everyone seemed to respect that it is a quiet site and there was no noise, we even found ourselves talking quite because it was so peaceful there! Really lovely. Thank you for making our holiday so perfect.

Quiet site with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. Very level hardstanding for motorhomes was available and we were offered the option to change to a grassed pitch. (we didn't as it was slightly more sloping and we had no levellers). Washroom and toilet blocks were spotless at all times. Great fenced field for the dog to run free. Would definitely go again if in the area. A small shop would have been helpful but I believe there is one in the nearby village.

Tips:

We stayed here as it was close to Junior Go Ape, situated at Beechenhurst Lodge, 2 miles away. No children allowed at this campsite so our family stayed elsewhere. Handy for anyone wanting to visit the forest and you can park motorhomes at the Lodge area and walk from there.

For adults wanting a peaceful place to camp I can whole heartedly recommend Deanwood. It's well located for forays into the Forest of Dean if a little limited with what's nearby - a P Office/shop, drinking pub and a mile away a food pub. Pleasant walks in the woods and maps provided.

Me and my partner took a last minute decision Friday evening to go away for the weekend. This campsite was the 4th campsite I called and were the only campsite with availability. I don't know why there were so many empty pitches as this is one of the nicest campsites I have ever stayed on for what it's worth. The facilities were spotless and smelt fresh. The campsite is well looked after. There are designated pitches. Reasonable priced. I would definitely recommend this to other campers.

Tips:

When we took the turning for the campsite we were bit reserved as it looked like it was in the middle of no where. However, a short drive past the campsite there's a little town with a few shops and local places to eat. (Pizza, chippy, curry etc). It is an ideal location to get to other activities etc.

We originally booked to have one of the pitches in the 1-6 area of the site, being a large motorhome, and advised that the pitches were the biggest available. We struggled to level the Motorhome due to the slope in that area, and asked to move over to the Hardstanding area, which we were told was no problem and ended up on pitch number 16. Very large perfectly level on hardstanding. The whole site was spotlessly clean and tidy with stunning views into the valley. The only comment I would make which was slightly negative was the showers weren't as powerful as some sites, and the fixed shower heads make rinsing off interesting. If the site had a small shop with essentials available it would be perfect

Tips:

If your bringing a motorhome, make sure you have everything you need with you, it's a fair walk down into the town if you've forgotten something.

Warm welcome on arrival and very flexible regarding pitch selection. Small reception but full of information much of which has been prepared by the owners regarding walks and local eateries etc. The site is on a slight incline but offers some of the most amazing views into the Forest of Dean. Showers, toilets were exceptionally clean and a credit to the owners. Great location for accessing the best the Forest of Dean has to offer and we will definitely be back.

Tips:

There are several walks in the immediate vicinity of the site which are full of wildlife. Further afield Tintern Abbey is beautiful and also has numerous walks, some quite challenging, in the vicinity. One in particular takes you high into the woods looking down on the Abbey from the Devils Pulpit which is spectacular. If History rather than walking is your preference then there are numerous Castles worth visiting incl Chepstow and Cardiff.

2nd May 2017:

lovely campsite, really quiet and scenic. Loved the walks off the campsite. Toilet block brilliant. just one tiny thing. we were one of three caravans next to each other, all with middle aged quiet couples, so we did wonder why on the last night, sunday 30th April a bunch of youngsters turned up and were either told or chose to camp right near us. They disturbed our evening, our nights sleep, as they proceeded to take their tent down late at night with much noise, sleep in their cars and then wake us up early when they slowly left the campsite, a bit of a shame when there were lots of empty pitches elsewhere on the campsite.

Tips:

Recommend the Rising Sun. not many petrol garages close by so stock up. campsite with awesome views and well looked after,

An amazing campsite, with stunning views. The staff are helpful and polite, nothing appears to be to much. The facillities are kept clean and it's nice to have the little extras like a washer and dryer. The site is so well thought out and works well.

Well laid out pitches and the view was wonderful. Loved being able to get straight into the forest from the site. Peaceful and clean thanks to no children. Just a shame to be woken at 6am by dustbin lorry collecting from site.

Tips:

Ensure you have a good map if you want to explore the forest as there are no markers.

Owner Response:

I'm sorry you felt our prices were high. You visited at Easter, a peak time. Our prices are lower when it isn't a Bank Holiday weekend and not a weekend in July or August. I hope you'll come again at a non-peak time.

We're just on our last night over the Easter break and we are very impressed. The pitches are well maintained and we have plenty of room. The site is very quiet and we haven't been kept awake by excessive lighting. The toilets/showers are lovely and clean. We had problems on pitch 6 getting our T25 camper level but the staff were helpful and gave me some timber to sort the problem. The site is on the edge of the Forest of Dean and perfect for walks. Although a local pest we regularly saw wild boar!

Tips:

Pitch 6 is not that level so be prepared with large levelling ramps. Plenty of walks nearby and wildlife. A short walk away (30 mins) is the steam railway

18th April 2017:

Your campsite is very beautiful and much hard work has gone into it to make it such a good place to stay and it would be the perfect site for us with our motorhome. However, the hard standing area is very ugly and unattractive and it feels as though you a in the car park behind a supermarket. Unfortunately, not even the planted tubs make any difference to this. It's an awful pity and if we return we will risk parking on the grass purely to avoid the hard standing. It's such a pity that the beauty of the site is not extended to the hardstanding area.

Tips:

You will get a warm welcome and excellent food at The Nag's head. The Rising Sun, along the forest path is a lovely place too.

Thank you for your review. Just a little point about extra basins - there is another shower block opposite Reception which tends to be very quiet - a lot less busy than the facilities near the motorhome area.

Very friendly chap who runs it, he even blew up my airbed!!! Beautiful views from the site, toilet and showers very clean and good. Would definitely return.

Tips:

Two pubs within walking distance, The Bailey for drinks, and The Rose and Crown for food & drink. The Rose and Crown don't have a card machine so make sure you have cash, otherwise can get some from the local shop within opening times. Good food at The Rose & Crown, very reasonably priced, the pub has a drab decor but the staff are helpful and friendly, food is good and the bar is stocked! Not much else to do within the area but we enjoyed it nevertheless.

Excellent sums it up. We were fotunate to have the site to ourselves for most of the week. We were sited on pitch 23 we turned our caravan round to facethe forest and make the most of the superb views and the direction of the sun, prime location on the site and cannot thank the staff enough. They were very informative about nearby and even further afield. They were obviously so proud of ther park and it showed in the care taken over all matters.if planning permission is obtained or necessary, a hide on the edge of the site facing the forest may be worth consideration with low lighting to view the nocturnal wildlife and could be a great sales point.

Tips:

If you are a nature lover and are in the area to see wild boar or deer dont bother travelling stay on siteand just look over the fence at dusk or dawn and you will see both. Nagshead rspb reserve is a must for birding. Lovely hides and great walks. Slimbridge is not too far away and well worth a visit. For the shoppers amongst you Gloucester Quays is the place. Do not break the arrival times because two caravans cannot pass on the lane leading to the site. Its only about 200 yards but could cause problems if you dont obey the rules. We will be going again. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
