Nuthatch Cottage

Church Lane Abenhall
Tel: 07888670961
Nuthatch Cottage is a cosy renovated Forester's cottage perched on a ridge overlooking the Flaxley valley on the edge of the Royal Forest of Dean. We have been awarded 4 STARS by Visit England Quality in Tourism. The cottage is perfect for couples or families and is ideal for short breaks but also fully equipped to make your longer stay more comfortable. We have wonderful views with forest tracks and footpaths from the doorstep. It is ideal for walking, cycling and those that love the tranquility of the countryside. We have lovingly restored Nuthatch Cottage to be as warm and cosy as possible whilst maintaining its original cottage character. We were able to incorporate bat and bird boxes into the external stonework and encourage as much wildlife into the garden as possible. We welcome up to 2 dogs with well behaved owners but pets are not allowed upstairs or on the furniture. A stairgate is provided to assist with this.

23rd August 2018:

We had a wonderful holiday. The cottage has beautiful gardens and view and is really peaceful. The cottage is immaculate and we felt really welcome. We also all loved the cats coming to visit.

Tips:

We would recommend Clearwell caves. Also the Lyon pub at Westbury on Severn.

Lovely cottage with great views.

Tips:

Other travellers to be aware that the access to the cottage is a long single track road, which is mainly unmade.

27th March 2018:

Just spent a lovely, cosy weekend at Nuthatch Cottage. Breathtaking views and so very peaceful. Our Chihuahuas Mario and Alvin enjoyed exploring the garden which was fully enclosed and safe for them. Interior of Cottage 4* but homely and comfortable, we loved the log burner. We shall definitely be returning in the future.

Tips:

Plenty of local places to visit and the forest is ideal for do walks. Would recommend using 'The Muddy Cow', 'The Chase Hotel' or 'The Red Heart' for quality food. Don't be alarmed when you turn onto church street to get to the cottage, the track is long and you have gone the correct way. :) enjoy it its a fantastic place to stay and switch off ..

3rd January 2018:

Lovely cottage had a wonderful time at nuthatch cottage from the moment we arrived, impeccably clean comfy and had everything we needed. It's obvious that the owners take a lot of pride and pleasure in the cottage. Thankyou

Tips:

There are plenty of walks right from the front door so take a picnic and set off to admire the woods, well, abbey and the lovely countryside. Enjoy a peaceful morning coffee in the garden watching a variety of birds come and visit

Owner Response:

Thankyou for your wonderful review of Nuthatch Cottage. We were chuffed to bits to read it and so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We do take a lot of pride in Nuthatch having personally been involved in its transformation from a ruin, about to collapse to the beautiful cottage it is today. In 2018 we plan to fully redecorate internally, carry on the great work in the garden, re-route the path from the car park and to complete the stone wall and pillars. we hope you are able to return and see the progress. 3rd October 2017:

Lovely, absolutely beautiful. The only comments we would have if we had to mention anything would be access. The farm track was extremeley bumpy and rough on the car. The other downside was internet access. Anyone wanting access especially for business purposes would struggle getting any signal. These comments are only if i would HAVE to mention anything. They are both things that can be overcome. The amazing views and the cottage being as beautiful as it is makes up for this :)

Tips:

Check out the Farmers Boy Inn which was featured on Four in a Bed. This is just a short drive away. Ross on Wye is a nice little place for a walk around too.
