Really quiet and tidy site, amazing facilities and incredible views. The site feels secure and has great recycling facilities. We appreciated the pitch recommendation and spent our evenings looking at amazing views over the Forest of Dean. We look forward to returning next year.

Tips:

There are a couple of pubs about half hour walk away. The Forest walks are really nice and we recommend a map for exploring. Lydney has everything you need including a couple of take aways (although we didn't try these) and a Tesco with petrol station. Clearwell Caves was about a 15 minute drive and really interesting, there are plenty of other things to do in the area.

Super site with very clean facilities. It was a quiet weekend so I did wonder what it'd be like when very busy as there were not many showers/toilets/washing up areas given the number of camping pitches. Just an observation as we found it all to be excellent. Appreciated the fridge in the larger washing up room, thank you!

Site in lovely location with great yard for caravans/motorhomes without an awning. Shower pressure at lower facilities near yard was VERY poor however also they seemed to go cool very quickly even when only one in shower room. Everything else was good and views excellent

Tips:

Directions given to get to site were very good. We have a large caravan and i had no problems getting to/from the site.

The campsite and its facilities were excellent- They were spotless. The pitches were a good size to allow plenty of room and privacy. toilets, shower block and kitchens were well lit and great working showers. The whole campsite was well maintained.

Tips:

I stayed with my 2 dogs. We spent our time walking and exploring the woods adjecent to the campsite. We also explored near by woods and walks. We did visit the lake and parks in Lydney.

1st September 2019:

we found the site to be clean and peacefull and loved the woods a nd dog field but it was a very sloping site and took us some leveling with our caravan my cousin had to move from their pitch next to us as coyldnt level their motor home at all it was quite stressful as there wasnt any other pitches left but luckily a nice person swapped. I found the toilets shower bloke to be very . poor everytime I went to the toilet I had to wait for someone to finish washing or cleaning their teeth before I could wash my hands ( only 2 sinks ) and to only have one hair dryer was poor for 2 shower blocks ! I didnt bring one as I always use the one onsite but even at 3.30 in the afternoon I had 2 ladies in front of me waiting to use the dryer ,so gave up in the end. we didnt see any staff except for guy on check in and didnt know the wifi code was written on benches until day we left might of been good to mention this on arrival

Owner Response:

I am pleased that you found our site clean and peaceful - even over a bank holiday weekend when we were fully booked! I am sorry that you and your cousin both had problems levelling your caravan and motorhome. Pitches 5 & 6 are on quite a slope, but amazingly, we had a couple in a motorhome come the week after you, when we were much quieter. They were given the choice of any pitch 1 - 6 and they chose pitch 5 because of the lovely views!! There are 2 ladies and 2 gents shower blocks with 2 sinks in each. Apologies that the wifi code wasn't pointed out to you - it was a very busy weekend and John was here, there and everywhere keeping everything running smoothly and clean.

1st September 2019:

We enjoyed our stay, location and site ideal for walks. Our pitch was large, but unfortunately not level, despite ramps which was a downside.

Tips:

Ideal campsite if you have a dog. Large off lead field for them to run around. Plenty woodland walks. Walked to Norchard to get steam train. Few basic local pubs within walking distance (15-20 mins). We ate at the nags head, which was good basic pub grub. Bailey inn local friendly pub. take a torch for walk back as no lighting along lane

The pitch allocated to us was number 33 very clean and tidy BUT was sloping at an alarming rate.Cooking was a night mare and we had to keep holding on to pans etc.to make sure they didn't slide off the cooker and sleeping at night we found we were sliding down the bed.Our poor dog slid off twice.

There are two pubs near, one does food the other just packet snacks but both are very friendly.there are plenty of wonderful dog walking places and ours loved it all.

Like I said a small gripe but would sometimes make for a more easier stay. Very dog friendly with great field to exercise off lead and lots of great walks what more could you want.

A super clean campsite with amazing views of the forest. Very quiet and would definitely come back there. Considering the time of the year it was lovely and peaceful too. The pub is a bout a mile walk it’s further than ½ mile Which was too far for our dog to walk as bad legs.

Tips:

There is plenty to do in the Forest of Dean and wye valley. You do need to be able to drive to most locations but there are some super walks in the forest nearby. Recommend visit Symonds year rock -amazing views Good pubs down the bottom at Symonds yat east and west great steaks at ye old ferry inn. Goodrich castle and Tintern abbey must see ruins. Puzzle wood and sculpture trail walk all good things to do. The woodman at park end good food and service. Everyone very friendly. Given the time of year surprisingly quiet with tourists which is great. Easy to find lovely walks all through the forest at no cost. Parking at main attractions seems to be £3 pretty much everywhere.

Very impressed with the facilities, cleanliness and layout of the site. Very quiet and fantastic views across the forest (particularly from the deg exercise field). Obviously a real effort has been made to make the pitches level, with much terracing taking place on what is a hillside site. Hedges on site help to provide some privacy to most pitches. We certainly hope to return.

Tips:

We only stayed for two nights, but recommend the both Chinese take-away in Lydney (Jimmy's Kitchen) and Ruddy's Fish & Chips. The wood adjacent to the site was lovely for walking the dog. The dog exercise field was a great thing to have on site, for early morning and late nigh necessities. We also visited Cannop Cycle Centre, which was fantastic: though I would recommend the Blue Route for the reasonably capable, as the Red Route is very difficult - after 20 minutes attempting Red I wouldn't even look at the black Route!

Lovely campsite to stay. We wanted a nice quiet site which it was mostly. Us and another camper had to ask one group of lads to keep the noise down. It did take us asking 2 or 3 times. Shame other campers didn't read the rules on being a quiet site. However, totally recommend this campsite. I'm sure not all campers are like that.

We really enjoyed our stay. It's a great location for walking and cycling and we were lucky enough to see a wild boar in the woods next door.

Tips:

The Forest of Dean is great for cycling and the visitor centres and cafes are well worth visiting for coffee or lunch.

Lovely clean and well maintained site however disappointed with depth of plots for our caravan . The car park/driveway is enormous and our hitch jutted out into it. Camping plots are beautifully laid out but pity grass caravan plots are not bigger and views were not of a massive gravel entrance . Directions to site spot on .

We were on the caravan hardstanding area which, though tending to look like a car park, was extremely suitable for us ad very convenient for kitchen and washing facilities. The only two minor downsides were that it was very hard to connect to the wifi in and just outside the van, though this could have been down to our older mobiles, and the reception area could possibly benefit from more visitor info and possibly from visitors' recommendations etc. That said, we were very happy at the site and will definitely return.

Tips:

The Bengal Balti in Lydney is certainly worth a visit either to sit in or as a takeaway.

We travel all over in the caravan. Our previous trip a month before visiting Deanwood was to Russia and we are currently in Slovenia en-route to Croatia before heading north to Estonia. We stay at a lot of sites throughout Europe and none are as friendly and well maintained as Deanwood. This was our third stay at the site visiting family in the area and we will definitely be back.

What a gem of a site in a beautiful area of the UK! And, added bonus - adult only which does help with the peaceful and calm surroundings on site. Great facilities - everything you need. Definitely recommend and we will return again!

Tips:

Stick to the sites directions avidly. It's amazing the teeny tiny roads in the area and how the satnav is attracted to them LOL! You do not want to be towing a caravan or driving a motorhome along some of the ones our satnav found (thankfully not towing!). The hard stands are exactly that - HARD! You will need rockpegs for your awning etc and a pair of pliers to get them out again. Positive is that you don't need to worry about the wind pulling your pegs out!

Lovely clean and spacious site with the bonus of being adults only. The only downside were the showers which weren’t brilliant as they only stayed on for a few seconds at a time and one of the showers in the ladies had poor temperature control but this didn’t ruin our stay at all. Also, the dog field was excellent.

10th July 2019:

Incredible campsite. The facilities were outstanding; spotlessly clean with two kitchen areas, and two showering/wash places and both were maintained to a high standard. The pitches were large and so you felt like you had lots of space around you. There were two dog walking areas (aside from the forest at the edge of the park) one a field, where our dogs could run free - though be careful if you have a little escape artist dog who can scramble through small holes made by wildlife! The only thing that was a little niggle is that there is only one hairdryer and there are no electric sockets in the bathrooms with a mirror for those wishing to use their own hairdryer/curling tongs. This would have been a bonus although not essential.

Tips:

Look out for FOD rocks on your walks - this was quite fun. You find painted rocks hidden in the forest walks and they are linked to a Facebook account, you post a picture where you found them and then re-hide them. Great fun for kids and adults and some great artistry!

perfect site for us with being able to walk Phoebe from the site. Loved where we were because of view and because we did not have many visitors around us and only one side. Not antisocial, just like our space and you provided that with pitch number 1.Coming back to same pitch in september and really looking forward to it.

Tips:

Take the heritage railway and you will find a lovely pub with brilliant carvery on sundays at the Parkend stop. Beautiful area, Forest full of walks to different stops in the forest and walks (long or short) signposted well but not too commercialised. Site and welcome first class.

Facilities were clean and modern. Pitches are generous and well kept. Adult only sites are what we look for and the views of the forest were lovely. A spacious paddock to run our dog off the lead is a rare treat that a lot of other sites sorely neglect so well done Deanwood! All this at a reasonable price is much appreciated.

Tips:

There is much to see and do in the local area so grab a brochure from the information desk at reception on arrival. Enjoy the site for its views, open spaces and direct access into the forest for walks, not to mention the sheer tranquillity and minimal light pollution which all adds up to what being out in the countryside is all about!

To say the site is impressive is an understatement. The site is everything we wanted and due to the dates and possibly the pour weather we had it pretty much to ourselves. The dog field is a huge bonus as well as access to some fantastic walks straight from the site. My ONLY problem was the showers (nearest the house). The shower head is very high (I'm only 5'2") so the water is more of a spray when it gets to me so takes a while to wash soap out of long hair. The lights are triggered by a motion sensor so, as I took a while, and no other campers entered, the lights went out AND the hot water went off. I can only leave it to the imagination of how I triggered the motion sensor to turn it all back on hahaha

26th April 2019:

We booked 6 months before and mentioned we had a 8m Motorhome yet were on a pitch with less space and view than two small campervans who said they didn’t specifically request a pitch and booked more recently. We were with friends so shared space between us but had we been on our own our space would have been very tight with little privacy. There was a lot of maintenance going on at the site which was good but was quite disruptive at times eg pressure washers and tractors feet away from us quite early in the morning over a bank holiday weekend. Now we’ve been we would be careful to request specific pitches as some pitches would be either inappropriate or not as nice as others. Also check in is 2pm and departure is 11. We were told it’s because of traffic down the narrow lane but were also told we could check in earlier if we paid £6! If you need to keep the lane clear £6 doesn’t change the traffic issue. 3 hours between departure and arrival seems too wide a time period. I think a 1pm check in without charge would be more appropriate.

Tips:

Lovely walks from the site. Nice views from some pitches but some looking at a huge green metal barn are not as nice. Local pubs are basic but Nags Head are welcoming and serves good value food.

First stay here at this small friendly adults only site and loved it. Peaceful, beautiful views and very clean. Right by Forest of Dean...we had bikes so rode down into forest. Will definitely be back here.

Tips:

Its very hilly so you will need a car if you arent so fit! A pub 5 mins walk but does not do food so you would need a car to travel only 5 mins more for a selection of restaurants, shops etc.

Deanswood is an absolutely amazing place to stay, we stay as often as we can! It is always immaculate, the grounds, kitchen area and toilets are so well kept. The owners obviously take a lot of pride in their site and it is a pleasure to be there. They're always very friendly and accomadating. A perfect getaway for a child free relaxing break in perfect peace!

Tips:

There are many attractions a short drive away such as puzzlewood and perrygrove train station.we just enjoy the walks through the forest and a visit to the docks. A very lovely cafe, the postage stamp cafe.. which served a delicious and filling breakfast and a decent price. We are slowly finding our way arou d but are figuring out there are some nice hidden gems if you search! Local pub the miners arms served a lovely dinner nicely portioned and not too pricey.well cooked in a nice location! Really enjoy our stay each time, and I am sure next time we will find even more goodies!

This was the second visit to the site in a few months. We used this as a base for walking in the Wye Valley between Monmouth and Chepstow but also is ideally located for the Forest of Dean and its many attractions. The site is well laid out and very well maintained. You will find John very helpful. We camp in a bell tent without an electrical hook-up. As there are understandable restrictions on open fires a communal fire pit area might be a good idea. This would provide a focal point in the evenings and an opportunity to get to know other campers.

Tips:

The Rising Sun is just down the road (by car). The Nags Head is within walking distance and has a nice garden but is pretty basic with a limited ‘pub’ menu.

27th September 2018:

Deanwood is one of the best campsites we have visited. They advertise as being dog friendly and they certainly are and provide a huge, stock fenced field for the dogs to run free. Everything has been well thought out for campers, water taps and facilities close to where you camp, washing up and freezer for a few bits, washing machine/tumble dryer and great idea of designated cupboard for lost and found items if you leave something in the showers or anywhere when they clean up they pop it in there and you can pick it up. The little hedges between pitches give a lovely feel to the site and are well spaced apart. The staff are very helpful and keep everything spotless without you even noticing they are doing it. We went in September and not many people there as it is getting towards the end of the tent camping season but they still cleaned the facilities daily and paid attention to keeping everything right for us few campers. The only thing I would change is the showers which have a push button timer which is too short so you have to keep pushing the button whilst trying to juggle slippery shampoo bottles. I know that water saving features are great but as an adult only site it would be nice to have a shower and be trusted to turn it off when finished.or just have a bit longer on the timer button. Having said that it is the perfect campsite for everything else and we will be going back again.

Tips:

If you want a dog walking holiday it is perfect, just walk right off the campsite for miles of forest or in the car within 10 minutes we did Cannop Ponds, Speech House Lake, Mallards Pike Lake, Soudley Ponds, New Fancy and loads more. Lydney and Cinderfoot are close for shopping.

We booked our weekend stay last minute after finding the campsite through a third party site and what a wonderful find it was!! Lovely laid out well kept site with clean toilet/shower block and exceptional views from the pitch. Would definitely stay again. Received a clear email on booking giving directions to the site and then to the pitch when we arrived as the owners wouldn't be around for our arrival. They came to find up later to make sure that we had settled in and found everything we needed.

Tips:

Although you can ride into the forest directly from site our children drove to the cycle centre at Cannop so that they could use the marked out runs. We went on a couple of circular walks at Tintern and Speech house. We found small write ups for both in a brochure in the campsite information hut and then downloaded PDFs for both that we could use whilst out. There was a lovely wooded dog walk directly from the campsite too so no need to go anywhere in the car if you didn't want to.

Facilities and cleanliness of the campsite was perfect, and the welcome from the owners great. We arrived on the Thursday, and the Thursday morning and Friday night were peaceful and relaxing. It was unfortunate on the Friday that quite a few caravans turned up, who seemed to be together and therefore the Friday evening was not so quite and relaxing and actually one of your other guests had to go and ask them to be quiet past 10.30 pm as they could be heard around the camp site. This was a bit unfortunate. Great welcome for dogs also and having the woods right next door to walk them first thing and last thing in the day was very helpful.

The whole locality is full of interesting things to see and do but the Forest of Dean is literally on the doorstep. We didn't eat locally during our short stay so cannot advise on restaurants etc but there are towns nearby with all facilities.

Great campsite, easy on arrival and stay. Felt professional but comfortable and very friendly. Perfectly quiet and calm.

Tips:

The forest just out of the campsite was perfect for walks. Depending on how far someone is willing to travel: there are plenty of castles to visit; we ventured as far as Caerleon to see the Roman baths and amphitheatre; Tintern abbey is an all time favourite, with a nice walk across the Wye and up to Devils pulpit for some great views. A little closer to home was clearwell caves and puzzle wood.

Another great stay, apart from the horrendous weather which you cannot be held responsible for. My only criticism is that the showers were not hot enough, I imsagine that this is because the weather had been hot and had suddenly taken a turn for the worse. However, the showers were, at best, warm to mildly hot and really needed to be turned up. I only used the lower shower block

Lovely view. All facilities beautifully clean, fresh and attention to detail such as checking adequate toilet rolls regularly. A very minor point - it would be good if hedges between tent plots extended a bit further to make pitches a bit more private. I appreciate hedges are quite new and will grow!

One of the best sites we have been to. Spotless, large pitches and views to die for. Appreciate the late arrival time, as the access road is very narrow. Friendly staff and very helpful. Will be returning.

Tips:

Great walks in the forest, straight out of the site, but further in, not all the footpaths have either been cleared, or few previous walkers, and easy to get part way along before having to turn around. However, walking is superb, and easy to spend the whole day without bumping into anyone else. We managed to walk 25 miles over 2 1/2 days. Several pubs within walking distance, and easy to get to Norchard Railway with free museum

A fantastic site. Clean, well ordered, high standard of toilet/shower and kitchens, generous pitch sizes, well maintained, friendly and helpful staff. We particularly liked the adults only plus dogs and quietness aspects. We were there when only a quarter full and also when full and there was no noise differences. Everyone we spoke to staying were impressed and intended to return. Families need sites full of activity but adults wanting a quiet and tranquil setting need something different, which is offered at this site.

Tips:

Unfortunately, we didn’t find any places to eat close by to recommend. We were hoping to find wild boar on menus but were disappointed! The walking in the forest was the main attraction for us.

Tips:

Quite a few things to do in the area. Lakes and woods to walk, great sights around the river Wye, especially Symonds Yat Rock and Symonds Yat East and West with nice pubs for a meal. Loved the Butterfly Zoo and Go Ape and area. Did a couple of trips into Wales which is not far away.

Thank you for taking the time to review our campsite. Reviews are very helpful to us. The showers are set to the 'factory standard' timing. We have looked into whether a replacement valve could be purchased which would allow the showers to stay on for a longer time but unfortunately these are not available. Thankfully we don't charge for the showers so although it may be annoying having to keep pressing the button at least it isn't costing you! The showers I use at the swimming pool in Lydney are the same and I find the easiest way to turn them on again is to lean on them with my back. Hope this helps!

Even though I always look for adult only and dog friendly sights as I always take my dog with me it’s disappointing when other people let there dogs loose on site. The only issue we had was a new arrival next to us letting there dog off lead to roam where ever and they didn’t pick up the mess it left on our pitch so we nearly stood in it when we arrived back to site then we had to pick it up. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay here and our wonderful location. I was sorry to read though about your neighbours allowing their dog to roam on your pitch, to foul on it, and then to not pick it up. There really is no excuse for that. That is not acceptable nowadays, we have plenty of Doggy Poo bins about and the dog shouldn't have been there in the first place. I will ask John to try and keep a closer eye out for this happening.

10th July 2018:

Very disappointing this time. A single sex group of 10 to 12 males had been allowed who generally spoilt the peace and quiet and in particular played loud music and shouted and jeered as they got more and more drunk as the evening went on. They broke just about every rule. So desperate that we phoned site owners at midnight as not quietening down (voices getting louder and louder in proportion to alcohol consumed) but not at all helpful - said everyone's perception of noise is different (this was like people having very loud (and offensive) conversation in our tent although they were 20 -30 yards away) and said we could speak to them. Disgusted - with no authority I would not expect to have to face up to 12 drunk offensive men. Finally went quiet 15 12.53 am (not 22.30 0r even 23.30). Got a few hours sleep. Felt abandoned by owners ("just gone to bed myself"). Lots of people talking about it next morning. What a shame - such a lovely place with excellent facilities and I would always have said so well run. Loved it last time. Spoiled the weekend.

Take ear plugs and check if any single sex groups are booked on before doing own booking

Very disappointed that your stay was spoilt this time. John did get dressed and go down and speak to the men, and they did lower their voices and turn off the music which isn't allowed outside at any time. Unfortunately they didn't quieten down completely and maybe even got noisier again after John left :( We have taken on board your comments and are reviewing our policies as we do want to be a quiet, peaceful, site.

Owner Response:

I am glad you enjoyed your stay here. We do, on discretion, allow early arrival from 9am, for which we charge £6 per pitch, the same as for Late Leaving. These guests had booked and paid for that. It is not something that we push and it is not an option when booking on line. The reason for this is, with the approach roads being very narrow, we like the caravans & motorhomes that are leaving on that day to have already left the area before the new guests start arriving - otherwise it can cause a serious bottle-neck!

Absolutely lovely. Showers and toilets immaculate, though water pressure pretty poor but would definitely not stop us from coming here again. The surrounding views are stunning, though we would would warn people this site is situated quite high up, so when entering the forest you go down a pretty steep hill but remember you have to walk back up it on your return! Even if you do struggle leg wise, it's still a lovely place to sit back, chill and enjoy the lovely views across the forest. Of all the walks we made, our favourite was to mallards pike. This we would thoroughly recommend if you have energetic dogs like us, as the reward for them was a nice cooling dip in the lakes at mallards pike. It is quite a challenging walk though. You can also get drinks and food at a mobile catering van, although they were building a hardstanding cafe which is opening at the end of the month. Back around the site, we were fortunate enough to see plenty of wild life including deers, wild boars and numerous birds that I wish I was more knowledgeable to name! Would I return? YES!!! We hope to come back again next summer.

Tips:

Recommend Nags Head for good quality well priced food and a friendly atmosphere

This is a small quiet campsite placed on a terraced hillside with a wonderful view over the Forest of Dean. The toilet/shower blocks are brand new and kept beautifully clean. There is even a hairdryer. There are two kitchen areas for washing up each with a fridge which campers can use.

Tips:

No pub/restaurant within walking distance was probably the only drawback of this otherwise outstanding site. We ate out at the Fountain Inn and Whitemead Park both just a few miles away in Parkend. Would recommend the Nags Head RSPB nature reserve also near Parkend where we were able to watch wild boar and of course sightseeing along the Wye valley which is nearby.

Some of the pitches are a little in the slope... at the bottom. If the world 2as perfect it would be lovely to get rid of some of the brambles in the bottom field you cant go in so you can see the view better, and whilst the showers worked perfectly well I would have loved a bit more heat :) The site was wonderful and we had a lovely, all be it windy, holiday.

Tips:

The Nags Heat pub is a very local pub that only accepts cash or cheque, so be prepared.

Absolutely superb quality and cleanliness of facilities, particularly shower, toilet, washing up and laundry facilities. Site very quiet and peaceful when we were there. Fantastic views into the forest. Grass all nicely mown, hedges trimmed etc etc. Couldn't recommend site highly enough

Tips:

The two local pubs, whilst friendly, were pretty grim and the food was awful. However, the Woodman Inn at Parkside was much nicer with good beer and food. It's a 5-10 minute drive. The Forest is delightful and there are many sheep strolling around the local streets. On an early (5.45) walk we encountered a group (herd? Flock?) of wild boar strolling around the streets amongst the houses- a sow and at least seven or eight piglets! Nice trips to Wye Valley, Tinturn Abbey, Symonds Yat, Monmouth etc

Warm welcome from John. Felt that anything we needed we just had to ask. Site is immaculate, well kept, clean and tidy. Toilet and shower block looks to be new. Dog exercise field is well fenced and large enough for a proper run around. Plenty of room on the pitches.

Tips:

We were only there for a couple of nights in our camper during some of the warmest weather in May. For walks in the forest you just open the gate on the perimeter fence and you are there! Looks to be good mountain biking country. The Pub at the end of the road was closed on the lunch time that we decided to venture out but the Nags Head was open and served decent pub grub although we only opted for salads. Views from the site across the forest are to die for, and the air is clean and fresh. Definitely number one site to revisit. Adults only is another bonus. We've done the kids stuff before and it's good to get away.

I am sorry that you weren't able to stay the full week. John wasn't aware that you were packing up to go when he was cutting the grass - he kept his distance as he was nervous of your dog which was on a very long tether and had already nipped him twice. The showers switch off so that water is not wasted, but they can always be switched on again - we do not charge any extra for the showers. Elaine

Our stay at Deanwood was our first trip in our campervan and it was great. Although it was very cold and rained ALOT! the facilities were always kept very clean. The dog exercise area is fantastic, allowing for off lead time close to our pitch. Due to the site being adult only there was peace and quiet to enjoy being part of the forest. I even got to see a wild bore! We hope to come back at another time of year to see the Forest change.

Tips:

The sculpture trail nearby offers a good walk for the dogs of lead and plenty of activities and trails for the kids too. Great if you aren't confident to go into the Forest without guidance. Getting our 'fairly' old camper up and down from Symonds Yat East proved to be quite a hassle with few passing spaces, and a very steep climb.

That said, it's within an easy drive of many other places to visit such as the FoD Art Trail (a superb day out) ... or just take a drive, find a layby (there are many) park up and go exploring yourself! If you fancy a day out, Trellech is a 30 min drive with a beautiful ancient well and standing stones and a dog friendly pub with good food :)

A beautifully peaceful and tranquil spot. Just what we needed to recharge our batteries. Our dog thoroughly enjoyed the treks through the forest right on the doorstep. Only downside was nowhere within walking distance to have a nice evening meal but only a minor point. Would highly recommend the site to anyone who truly wants to get away from it all. Excellent!!

Tips:

Enjoyed Beechenhurst Lodge and the sculpture trail. Good choice of food at the cafe.

We chose this campsite as it was advertised as dog friendly and it certainly was. Loved the fenced off field for them to run free, perfect for first thing in the morning to wander down with a cup of tea and sit on the bench and enjoy the beautiful view while the dogs did their morning romp round the field. Dog poo bin by the gate was appreciated! The grounds were spotless and obviously well looked after as were the shower blocks & toilets. The free washing machine and tumble dryer was a great facility to have. Everything was easy to find, water, bins etc and hookup for electric with your pitch number was great. It is a very nice set up all round, well thought out and kept very clean and tidy. Really enjoyed out stay with you.

Tips:

If you want a place to take your dogs on holiday in the Forest of Dean this campsite is perfect. Forest walks straight off the campsite and lots of lovely other places around 10 mins in the car. We did Mallards Pike Lake, Soudley Ponds, Speech House Arboretum and Lake, Cannop Ponds, The Sculpture Trail just up the road from Speeech House.

What a fabulous site . You should be proud of yourselves . Immpecably kept - clean & tidy. Toilets - showers kept supurbly clean & free use of washing machine & tumble drier Came with 3 dogs & my what a lovely secure huge dog field !! Just what we wanted - so quiet. We will be back !

Tips:

Very central for our needs . We brought dogs to do alot of walking & swimming - so many places close by . And we ate in - on our stoves every night . Blessed with the weather & super sunsets .For those with dogs the Arberetum & flat walks just off it into the forest is well worth a visit

What a lovely campsite, we couldn't fault it. A few steps and you are in the forest where you could walk all day. The dogs loved chasing through the trees. The site has a large fenced dog run which is excellent for first thing. The views are wonderful, looking across the forest. We were on hard standing at the top of the site. The spaces are huge, giving everyone lots of room. We would definitely return. Thank you for a great few days.

Tips:

2 pubs in the village both walkable distances. The Nags Head had a nice garden with views of the river. Food was very good. There are 2 shops selling most things, 1 is a post office as well. A bus goes to Lydney, but only runs 3 times a day. You can walk from the site through the forest to the Steam railway. ( though I'd advise you to have a good map showing paths) There you can get tickets for the day, dogs are allowed on the train.

This is a lovely clean and well kept site, the staff were very easy to chat with,we were in a motorhome and we were quite happy where we were located on the hard standing at the top of the site, I have read that some campers thought it looked like a carpark but we didn't feel this at all, water and waste were easy to get to, the washing machine and dryer were free to use, our dog loved going straight into the forest ,lovely walks, a field where dogs can be let off the lead, nice views across the forest ,

Tips:

you can get a nice meal cooked fresh at The Nags head in the village only about a 20 minute walk from the campsite, turn right at the Bailey inn,

John is a great chap, he will help you out with any problems you may have during your stay. The site is spotless, well maintained. The only two faults we found were 1 the showers. You had to keep pressing the button. 2 the grass could have been a little shorter, but there are lots of plusses for this site, the quietness, the wildlife and the stunning views. Can't wait to book again.

Tips:

Lots of local pubs around, the local p.o stores sells a large selection of groceries at very reasonable prices.

We were welcomed by John who gave us a site map (with the "rules" on the back) as well as a map of the forest paths in the next field. He also told us where to find the local shops and pubs. The site and facilities are both very clean. It was nice to have contact phone numbers for staff available at reception.

Tips:

There is so much to do in this area. Due to the changeable weather we visited castles and only managed short walks. We particularly liked the Angidy Trail (around Tintern)- the leaflet gives accurate directions. However, if you choose to do the Puddingstone and pubs walk (leaflet issued by Wye Valley)you may wish to consult an OS map.

We had a great stay in spite of far from perfect weather. Our pitch (48) had a good view and was plenty big enough for our tent and car. We were impressed with how well kept and clean the facilities were.

Tips:

We ate at The Nags Head which was great value with good home cooking, and The Ostrich which was very nice but more expensive. We enjoyed Puzzlewood, a visit to Chepstow castle and the Sculpture trail.

I camped here for 2 nights whilst mountain biking in the Forest of Dean This is a lovely campsite that is super clean. The pitches are clearly marked with generous space. Most have hedge to one side that provides some privacy and shelter. Being adult only the site is amazingly quiet at night. The showers and toilets were modern and very very clean. The showers hot. There are washing up facilities where they even provide free washing up liquid and scourers, not to mention a free washing machine and dryer.

Tips:

Don't expect to buy bread, chips, a paper, sweets or a latte on-site or you face disappointment. No bingo ...Personally I approve! The location is remote and next to a small wood for short walks. The view of the valley is breathtaking. The Forest of Dean can be reached on bike or foot although I soon started driving as the journey is hilly. The Forest of Dean purpose built MTB single track, family trails and practice slopes and extreme sections are first class. Just 12 minutes car journey away. A must visit for anyone who likes knobbly rubber. I only have one very small grumble. The showers have those push button "taps" that you used to get at school. As an adult I did not enjoy stop start showers. There must be better solution?

This was our first stay with you and it won't be the last! We had such a relaxing break! Couple of recommendations, maybe a hairdryer or plugs in the ladies showers and possibly a little radio to drown out those noises!! And also possibly a little shop that sold the basics, I can understand why u would let go down this route due to extra work etc but I think it would be a good idea

Tips:

Nags head food is lovely, pub itself could do with a lick of paint, sat outside is lovely though, post office and mini supermarket bout 20 minute walk and another pub that just does drinks but we didn't go in!
