21st September 2020:

The only thing I was unhappy about is the slope on pitch #5. Even when I combined my own levellers with the one you provided our motorhome was still far from level. We couldn’t even get the sink to drain properly. Maybe you could supply more suitable levelling blocks.

Tips:

Chepstow Castle and Tintern Abbey are well worth visiting. In Chepstow, The Tiffin tea/coffee shop is excellent.

Wonderful site and exellent facilities. Great views. Very helpfull owners, good size pitches. [Tip]Need leveling supports [wheel ramps] for most pitches.

Tips:

If you can take time, travel the area of Forest, it has many attractions to enjoy, or just marvel at the natural environment.

Lovely quiet site with stunning views and right on the Forest of Dean - what’s not to like about the location! The staff we met where friendly and helpful. Everyone followed the COVID-19 restrictions that were in place. Everything from our point of view was perfect. We enjoyed it that much we extended by two days. We will definitely return.

Tips:

We were at Deanwood Campsite fit 2 weeks. We managed to explore far and wide. We canoed the River Wye, Mountain Biked from Cannop Cycle Centre and did a lot of walks from a number of places throughout the Forest. We had a trip to Monmouth and took in the Kymin on the way. Nice town with some great shops. Also visited the National Trust’s Westbury Gardens. Lots to see and do for everyone.

For Motorhomers....all grass plots require checks to lever. Pitches are nicely spaced and all with a view.

Tips:

Deanwood has an elevated position which means amazing views. The Forest is within just a few places from any of the pitches and fantastic walking in all directions. Please be aware that every walk takes you down hill which means if you've been out for the day and tired, there will always be a large hill to climb to get home!

Very clean and well equipped. Toilet block, showers, kitchen and laundry, etc all immaculately kept. Pitches all have views over the forest. We were not able to meet any staff because of pandemic but someone did pop over and ask if we were enjoying our stay and thanked us for coming. As reception is closed a clearer map and more info about local activities would be useful on the notice board. Luckily we had printed a walking map before we came.

Tips:

Lovely views with a walk round Pillowell Wood on the doorstep. Very peaceful and quiet. Lots of walks further afield available but aware of fairly steep descents and ascents. Not much to do apart from walking. Nag's Head nearest pub a bit run down but good home cooked food. Tried the Miners Arms in Whitecroft which was good but quite a steep walk back up to site.

It is a beautiful site, very small which we really liked as it was so quiet. In fact we were probably the loudest. It was immaculately clean and the owners were lovely. Our only issue all weekend is that we were on a slope and it's hard sleeping on a slope. However, we did book fairly recently so it may be that as we were quite a big group there was no choice. One question I do have, would you normally stock any gas as we were running low, although we managed okay, it wondered if you did have any form of small shop normally?

Owner Response:

We used to have a small shop in Reception before Covid19 but we didn't sell gas, just rock pegs, maps, electric hook-up cables etc. Gas is available from Yorkley Store and Post Office, or a larger selection from Forest of Dean Caravans at Parkend.

This was our sixth visit so even though we did not get up close and personal we know how helpful and pleasant you all are. The site cannot be faulted in any way. Apart from the weather, heehee.

Tips:

Do not arrive before 2. The short lane is narrow and 2 vans would find it difficult to pass. Nags Head RSPB reserve is a must for wildlife. We saw 4 adult boar and 9 piglets within 20 minutesof arrival but the deer were a bit harder to spot, they took 40 minutes 2 adults with a fawn at foot. The Rising Sun is great for food. The forest next to the site is good for wildlife and birds. Clearwell caves is well worth a visit when Covid 19 allows. Gloucester Quays and Cheltenham are both well worth a visit.

Despite experiencing what felt like every season in our 4 night stay, we had a fantastic time. The location next to the forest is wonderful for exploring the wildlife. My partner is a lower leg amputee who wears a prosthetic and would have benefited from a disabled shower (obviously has to take his leg off when showering), but managed well enough in the well appointed facilities. Will hopefully be returning next year. During the winds of storm Laura, we saw site staff assisting other campers secure their tents well after midnight. Real community feel. Thank you.

Tips:

Lydney Harbour was lovely as was the sculpture trail. Definitely enjoyed exploring the forest walks behind the site the most.

Fabulous adults only site. Pitches are well spaced out, facilities spotless at any time of day. Easy check in what with the current covid restrictions. The location could not be better, edge of the forest with great off lead walks to the pub, The Rising Sun with the dog. This is the second visit to this site and everything was perfect yet again.

Tips:

Fabulous walk directly from the site to the Rising Sun. Took about an hour and if you have a dog its mainly off lead which was great! You will need a OS map but well worth the effort

Site is basic, but nice, clean and quiet and the views of the forest of Dean are beautiful. The owner came over in the evening and welcomed us too, which was really nice of him.

Tips:

Don't get a Chinese from kunming (it's rubbish and that's being polite) the nags head pub doesn't accept card payments (this just seems bonkers especially as we're in a pandemic), you can walk through the forest to the rising sun pub which is nice. Lots of lovely walks on your doorstep, however, watch out for sheep when driving. They are everywhere in villages, i.e on people s front lawns etc, it's like the farmers can't be bothered to keep them in a field in Gloucester.

Thank you for a lovely time! Needed to get away for a few days and it was exactly what I wanted. Nice big camping pitch with plenty of room. Couldn't fault the cleanliness of the place. Glad we came mid-week as facilities were a lot busier on Friday/Saturday morning

Tips:

The Nags Head - lovely food and piping hot. Bit of a walk but worth it. The Baileys Inn - Good for a quiet drink and game of pool (and within staggering distance back to camp) The Miners Arms - Food okay but very busy so book in advance Dean Heritage Centre in Soudley/Cinderford - a must-do, especially the Gruffalo Trail! Loved the site. A small on site shop selling basics is the only thing that would have liked but there were many shops to travel to nearby. Toilets and showers were extremely clean but the water pressure and temperature wasn't great. Would love to visit with my teenage children, its unfortunate that the site is strictly over 18s. Had a lovely welcome from John who was extremely helpful and friendly.

Im sorry to say that we were very dissatisfied with the pitch you put us on. It was basically the car park. Our view was the back of what looked like tin sheds. When we walked to the dog walking area the fields were beautifull. The views were perfect. It was a perfect place to spend 5 days. You need to rethink where you put us. It would be ok for an overnight stop. But that would be it. On top of this we were put next to a group of people with at least 8 dogs between them all German Shepard's.the gentleman next to us spent all afternoon with a drill!! making holes in the ground to put up a compound to keep his dogs in. No peace and quiet there. Once the holes were drilled he then proceeded to bang poles in with a large lump hammer. You said it was adults only, but in the sheds opposite there were a large family of children who screamed and shouted all day. And blasting the horn on their car, my husband and I are front line workers and we expected to receive what was described. Mainly a peacefull stay. With beautiful views. Which didnt happen for us. If we had seen anyone we would of asked to move.

Tips:

The forest was beautifull. Be warned very steep walks. The showeres and toilets were spotless. I was looking forward to eating out. It was not possible to walk there. As the road was dangerous, and a lot further than stated. This information was given to us by other campers. All together very dissapointing, and upsetting. I have never been on a worse pitch.it was a long drive to be so dissapointed.

Immaculate site. Plenty of space between pitches for privacy. Good facilities such as the free washing machine and tumble dryer. Plenty of drinking water stations. Good dog field for the early morning and late evening walk, but also great access to the woods for a longer and more picturesque walk. Showers and toilets were kept exceptionally clean at all times throughout our stay. I liked the fact it was adult only as the site was nice and peaceful. The whole booking and checking in process was easy from start to finish. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would come back again. I would recommend this site to adults looking for a peaceful retreat along with being dog friendly.

Tips:

Sculpture trail, although the sculptures were not to my taste it was a lovely walk. Ate at the Globe Inn, although a car drive it was well worth it, dog friendly, home cooked, fresh food with really friendly staff. Book in advance though as it's quite popular.

Lovely quiet campsite situated in a great area for walking and running. The booking was handled speedily, and both the directions to the site and the system for Covid Safe Check in were explained clearly. The facilities were spotlessly clean, and everyone was respectful of Social Distancing, while still being friendly and welcoming. The only downside was that there was no access to walk maps due to Reception being closed.

Tips:

Bring an O.S Map and a compass when walking in the forest, as there are no obvious waymarks, and it is a huge area. Cycling involves steep off-road hills or busy(ish) roads in order to reach the main cycle trails. We were only staying for 4 nights, but would definitely visit again to explore further.

Deanwood is our little getaway. It is an absolute amazing place to go if you need some peace and quiet. The campsite itself is pristene including toilets/showers and kitchen area for peoples use. The guests are always kind and considerate. The staff and owners are lovely and welcoming always stop for a little chat and welcome you in. The views and nearby walks are breathtaking. With local shops and nearby town, some tourist attractions not very far away this is an ideal location for a laid back holiday stay. It's a nice suprise to see the dear running through the forest although you have to look carefully!

Tips:

There are plenty of pubs a short drive away for a good meal also the post office shop cooks a brilliant breakfast which is our routine last day treat before we leave. Delish! Lydney harbour is a nice walk and interesting with the old boats moored up and half sunken remains. Very pretty. You can hire bikes or drive to puzzle wood. Symonds yacht not to far away either. Great site in many ways however, this is not a criticism just my thoughts - grass ehu pitches for motorhomes or caravans are too short. Hardstanding pitches have bland outlook onto green clad barns and feels like a car park or an Aire. Motorhome grey water disposal point too small and difficult to be accurate with my type of drainage point

Major levelling blocks required due to the steep slope of pitch 5,one 2in block supplied ,we used our own 8ins ramps but still we weren’t level, water would not run out of sink or shower, so we used your facilities which were very good, otherwise we enjoyed our stay .

Tips:

Did not use any pubs or restaurants, but did plenty of bike rides, and walking in the forest,

Highly recommend this campsite, the location is beautiful with views over the valley and right next to the forest. The facilities are spotless and the provisions for social distancing at this time were well organised, with plenty of hand sanitizer and instructions. Online booking was straight forward and check in very simple with a list of names and pitch numbers on the notice board. Thanks for a safe and peaceful stay!

Tips:

We visited the Miners Arms which is about 20 mins walk but they don’t do food on a Monday. Heard from other campers that one of the pubs in Yorkley doesn’t serve food at all. Advise to check/book if you want to eat out!

Lovely 2 night stay. With the current situation (COVID-19) we were a little apprehensive about using toilet/shower block but it was very clean, not crowded and well placed hand sanitizers. Very peaceful location, quiet but friendly site - we may be converted to adult only sites ! Good price too and great there’s no charge for awnings which I find annoying. Would highly recommend staying at Deanwood

A very nice caravan park, the toilet and shower block were very clean although we didn't use them, because of Covid we decided to be self contained and used our own. Couldn't give 5 stars for service/staff because we never dealt with any all the time we were there. Stayed on pitch 26 witch was fairly level and had wonderful views across the forest. The 2 pubs in the village were both very friendly to both us, and the dog! The Nags Head does very good food, although basic.

A beautiful situated site with wonderful views. Easy to book and clear instructions on admission . Sad not to see the site managers / wardens as all the other sites that we have visited post lockdown the wardens were clearly visible every few hours wiping down water points door handles etc etc . Good value for money . Excellent services for Motorhome ie, drive over waste , Elsa point

Tips:

Quiet and peaceful site. We did get a strong smell of sewage if the wind was in a certain direction. A nice stroll into the village to local shop . There is also a wooded walk from the site but a bit too long for us oldies !! Well worth staying at this site . I would recommend a grass pitch

The whole site is immaculate. The caravan pitches over looking the valley are the better pitches. We pitched front end on so could enjoy the fantastic view. The toilet /shower facilities excellent, I don’t know if they are new but they certainly look new. The location to the forest couldn’t be better. Finally the dog walk /field is large where the dogs can run off lead. Picnic bench there to sit throw a ball enjoy the views with a morning coffee.

Tips:

Mallards pike lake: dogs can be off lead there. Only Car park charges apply. The sculpture trail is ok ! Probably good with children! Dogs had to be on lead. Once again carpark fees only. There are plenty of places where you could park up and go for a walk through the forest.

Although some restrictions due to eased lockdown rules there was no adverse effect on our stay. I have not stayed at an adult only site before and is certainly much more pleasant for school holiday camping. Was great to have WiFi access on site but not in the tent. Made me have a break from constant Covid updates but still be able to stay in touch each day. Will definitely be visiting this site again. My new favourite.

Built on the side of a hill, we understand how difficult it is to have level pitches. We had to change the position of our motor home on the 2nd day, due to the steep incline within, and even then the problem remained tho' not as bad. It might be a good idea to step level each pitch on the upper grass level like the conference center as motor homes don't have the same leveling facility as caravans.

Tips:

The nearest village is 1.5 miles away. As there were no brochures on display due to Covid, I have no idea about eateries near by. The forest is very nice to walk the dog and there are many tracks to use but one needs to keep a weather eye for wild bore as to see one would be interesting.

Absolutely beautiful campsite. Immaculately kept. Stunning views. Adult only so quiet and respectful. Allows multiple dogs. Large enclosed field for dogs to run free. (Two small gaps where wildlife has dug the ground that small dogs may be able to wiggle threw) otherwise perfect. Couldn't be closer to the forest for walks the the woods and nature trails. Lovely for the outdoor types or people who just want to chill. We didn't see the owners this time but know them to be friendly, helpful and accomadating. Covid friendly, sanitisers, etc in place. The only downside is summer is half over already this year! Absolutely stunningly beautiful campsite and throughly recommend. Can't fault it!

Showers need to be a bit warmer Male cleaners- I have no problem at all with this but a knock on the door before entering would be polite. I was in the washroom about 11pm when a gentleman burst (literally) through the door went to the cupboard. You have no cubicles for washing so I could have been in my underwear having a wash and which could have been embarrassing for both parties Information about area. 1) When booking I asked for Pitch Not. 26 and 25 as we have had them previously and there is no walk through between the two caravans. I was told that 26 was already taken. It was empty for the whole week. 2) On the last day of our holiday with you we were shocked and extremely surprised that you had allowed a young all male group of 8 with a large tent and several small tents camping right in front of our caravan. They were talking and laughing until 4.30am and we had no sleep until then.

I'm sorry that you couldn't have your first choice of pitches - Pitch 26 was booked initially but unfortunately the guests had to cancel. John spoke to the young men when he was advised that they had been talking into the night and they were much quieter / settled much earlier the second night. They were advised that this wasn't acceptable behaviour. Even though they were only talking the noise carries on such a quiet site. We won't be allowing them to book again.

Immaculate site. Beautiful views. Quiet and secluded but in easy reach of Lydney for supermarkets etc. Friendly and helpful staff.

Tips:

Visit Lydney harbour. Great place to walk along River Severn. Stunning views across river. So much to do and see in the Forest of Dean. Great walks, activities for kids, excellent cafes with great food. Places definitely worth visiting - Gloucester quays, Chepstow, Monmouth, Ross on Wye, Symonds Yat.

Both of you friendly, efficient and helpful, Jhon especially when Paul needed a Dr.We are thinking of giving up motorhoming and Jhon, again very helpful in showing us their self catering cottages as we would still want to come to the site. We love that we can walk with Phoebe dog straight from the site and will be there next year, either with motorhome or in a cottage. Perfect site for us.

Tips:

Heritage railway lovely if your in to steam. The warren of walks in the forest plentiful and easily signposted. The Fountain at Parkend does brilliant carvery for sunday lunch and there is another one close (I think called White Hart) that does brilliant pub food. Both are dog friendly, even down to the biscuits on the bar. Very dog friendly area.I could go on for pages singing praises for the site and the area. Can't wait to go back.

Deanwood is the best campsite we have stayed at.They are very dog friendly and provide a huge fenced in dog exercise field which is brilliant. The grounds are kept well maintained and the facilities are spotless at all times. The staff are very friendly and approachable should you need anything. It is a lovely site and well looked after by the staff. We have been 3 years in a row now in September and will be going again next year as it is perfect for us.

Tips:

Deanwwood is a perfectly placed site in the Forest of Dean. There are loads of good areas for a walk with the dogs or just a walk if you don't have a a dog. We stayed 10 days and found a different walk every day within 10 minutes. The RSPB walk at Parkend was lovely as was Soudley Ponds, Cannop lakes, Speech House, Mallards Pike, and loads more and the same goes for shopping in nearby Lydney, Coleford (great butchers shop there and also a Deli selling cheeses, meats, pate, etc) or Cinderford for another great butchers and we had an excellent lunch at the White Heart Pub in Cinderford.

25th September 2019:

Arrived with Motorhome for prepaid and booked pitch. Due to the uneven and un-level ground, our pitch was clearly NOT suitable for a Motorhome nor Caravan. We managed to obtain wooden blocks, and more wooden blocks and even more wooden blocks together with our own ramps and to no avail. It was impossible to level our vehicle. Site owner wasn't very helpful and after over an hour of trying to level the vehicle, I asked for my money back! There were empty spaces that were suitable and in the end we were parked by Reception which wasn't the size of a full pitch. The next day we insisted on one of the hard standing pitches which was more level and moved. I was very upset at how the situation was handled by the owner. I have been motorhoming for years - I have parked in fields and showgrounds that were never as uneven as some of the pitches on this site. (This site advertises spacious level ground and hard standing pitches) It wasn't cheap either.

Tips:

Nice Pub, good food, reasonably priced, but need a car to get there. (Bit too far to walk in the heat)

Owner Response:

I am sorry that you weren't happy with how your complaint was dealt with. The pitch that you booked (Pitches 1 - 6) is advertised as 'slightly sloping ground' not level ground. We did our best to help you with providing blocks, and then we even phoned another guest who had booked last minute to ask if they would swop pitches with you - which they did! Amazingly, the following week when we weren't busy and Pitches 1 - 6 were all vacant we had a guest with a motorhome very similar to yours actually choose Pitch 5, the pitch you were allocated, although he could have chosen a pitch nearer Reception which would have had less of a slope. He loved the view from Pitch 5 - and he didn't have a problem levelling his van.

we found the site to be clean and peacefull and loved the woods a nd dog field but it was a very sloping site and took us some leveling with our caravan my cousin had to move from their pitch next to us as coyldnt level their motor home at all it was quite stressful as there wasnt any other pitches left but luckily a nice person swapped. I found the toilets shower bloke to be very . poor everytime I went to the toilet I had to wait for someone to finish washing or cleaning their teeth before I could wash my hands ( only 2 sinks ) and to only have one hair dryer was poor for 2 shower blocks ! I didnt bring one as I always use the one onsite but even at 3.30 in the afternoon I had 2 ladies in front of me waiting to use the dryer ,so gave up in the end. we didnt see any staff except for guy on check in and didnt know the wifi code was written on benches until day we left might of been good to mention this on arrival

I am pleased that you found our site clean and peaceful - even over a bank holiday weekend when we were fully booked! I am sorry that you and your cousin both had problems levelling your caravan and motorhome. Pitches 5 & 6 are on quite a slope, but amazingly, we had a couple in a motorhome come the week after you, when we were much quieter. They were given the choice of any pitch 1 - 6 and they chose pitch 5 because of the lovely views!! There are 2 ladies and 2 gents shower blocks with 2 sinks in each. Apologies that the wifi code wasn't pointed out to you - it was a very busy weekend and John was here, there and everywhere keeping everything running smoothly and clean.

Take a nice wander in the woods with your dog and other half, accessed from the site via a well signposted gate. Enjoy the peacefulness and views of this site.

A great location for a quiet relaxing stay with beautiful views. Clean toilets and showers, plenty of them too also other great facilities like washing machines and a fridge. The only gripe all be it a small one is there is no shop or place to buy maybe a loaf of bread or of the like just for convenience. Like I said a small gripe but would sometimes make for a more easier stay. Very dog friendly with great field to exercise off lead and lots of great walks what more could you want.

Tips:

Lidney not far for shops and there are a lot of dog friendly pubs which do great food.

Excellent value for money. Stunning views. Ideal for people who want peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The site is easily accessible and has the basic amenities required for a pleasant stay.

Tips:

The town of Lydney is a short drive away and is a nice town to visit, the shops are varied and cater for all the basics. Lydney harbour is worth a visit also. There are larger towns surrounding if you enjoying shopping but they can be about 45 mins travel.

A super clean campsite with amazing views of the forest. Very quiet and would definitely come back there. Considering the time of the year it was lovely and peaceful too. The pub is a bout a mile walk it’s further than ½ mile Which was too far for our dog to walk as bad legs.

Tips:

There is plenty to do in the Forest of Dean and wye valley. You do need to be able to drive to most locations but there are some super walks in the forest nearby. Recommend visit Symonds year rock -amazing views Good pubs down the bottom at Symonds yat east and west great steaks at ye old ferry inn. Goodrich castle and Tintern abbey must see ruins. Puzzle wood and sculpture trail walk all good things to do. The woodman at park end good food and service. Everyone very friendly. Given the time of year surprisingly quiet with tourists which is great. Easy to find lovely walks all through the forest at no cost. Parking at main attractions seems to be £3 pretty much everywhere.

We wanted a quiet weekend away from the children and to explore the Forest of Dean, that we had never been to before. The weather was so still and warm and the campsite so wonderfully quiet with really pretty views. The facilities were spotless .. we honestly slept for 12 hours on the first night We would like to come back again for more exploring.

Tips:

Walked to the Nags Head. Had a lovely homemade meal. Steam train and roast dinner in Parkend. Walk and lunch at Symonds yat. Gorgeous castle and coffee at Goodrich.

Very impressed with the facilities, cleanliness and layout of the site. Very quiet and fantastic views across the forest (particularly from the deg exercise field). Obviously a real effort has been made to make the pitches level, with much terracing taking place on what is a hillside site. Hedges on site help to provide some privacy to most pitches. We certainly hope to return.

Tips:

We only stayed for two nights, but recommend the both Chinese take-away in Lydney (Jimmy's Kitchen) and Ruddy's Fish & Chips. The wood adjacent to the site was lovely for walking the dog. The dog exercise field was a great thing to have on site, for early morning and late nigh necessities. We also visited Cannop Cycle Centre, which was fantastic: though I would recommend the Blue Route for the reasonably capable, as the Red Route is very difficult - after 20 minutes attempting Red I wouldn't even look at the black Route!

Lovely campsite to stay. We wanted a nice quiet site which it was mostly. Us and another camper had to ask one group of lads to keep the noise down. It did take us asking 2 or 3 times. Shame other campers didn't read the rules on being a quiet site. However, totally recommend this campsite. I'm sure not all campers are like that.

Tips:

Lovely walk down through the woods into Lydney. Had taxi back as recommended. Went to the local pub and had lovely food.

We were on the caravan hardstanding area which, though tending to look like a car park, was extremely suitable for us ad very convenient for kitchen and washing facilities. The only two minor downsides were that it was very hard to connect to the wifi in and just outside the van, though this could have been down to our older mobiles, and the reception area could possibly benefit from more visitor info and possibly from visitors' recommendations etc. That said, we were very happy at the site and will definitely return.

Tips:

The Bengal Balti in Lydney is certainly worth a visit either to sit in or as a takeaway.

What a gem of a site in a beautiful area of the UK! And, added bonus - adult only which does help with the peaceful and calm surroundings on site. Great facilities - everything you need. Definitely recommend and we will return again!

Tips:

Stick to the sites directions avidly. It's amazing the teeny tiny roads in the area and how the satnav is attracted to them LOL! You do not want to be towing a caravan or driving a motorhome along some of the ones our satnav found (thankfully not towing!). The hard stands are exactly that - HARD! You will need rockpegs for your awning etc and a pair of pliers to get them out again. Positive is that you don't need to worry about the wind pulling your pegs out!

10th July 2019:

Incredible campsite. The facilities were outstanding; spotlessly clean with two kitchen areas, and two showering/wash places and both were maintained to a high standard. The pitches were large and so you felt like you had lots of space around you. There were two dog walking areas (aside from the forest at the edge of the park) one a field, where our dogs could run free - though be careful if you have a little escape artist dog who can scramble through small holes made by wildlife! The only thing that was a little niggle is that there is only one hairdryer and there are no electric sockets in the bathrooms with a mirror for those wishing to use their own hairdryer/curling tongs. This would have been a bonus although not essential.

Tips:

Look out for FOD rocks on your walks - this was quite fun. You find painted rocks hidden in the forest walks and they are linked to a Facebook account, you post a picture where you found them and then re-hide them. Great fun for kids and adults and some great artistry!

Tips:

Take the heritage railway and you will find a lovely pub with brilliant carvery on sundays at the Parkend stop. Beautiful area, Forest full of walks to different stops in the forest and walks (long or short) signposted well but not too commercialised. Site and welcome first class.
