Fantastic cosy cottage, equipped with everything you need for your stay. The welcome tray is a lovely touch, with freshly-laid eggs, crusty bread and delicious homemade brownies. The cottage and grounds are beautiful and Jo and Simon are on hand to help out with anything you need. We felt very much at home.

Tips:

The surrounding area is beautiful with lots of towns to visit if that's your thing. We spent time exploring the Wye valley - the autumn leaves were beautiful and the scenery truly spectacular.

Lovely cottage and our second stay there. Beautiful gardens to explore and nice to meet the pigs Jack and Jill. Warm welcome from Jo who makes the best brownies!

Tips:

Would recommend hiring bike's and completing the family cycle trail in the Forest of Dean. Goodrich Castle is an interesting visit as is Elton Mazes, just on the doorstep. The Red Hart is good for a meal.

Jo and Simon couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating during our stay. We really enjoyed having the cottage for our holiday. It is very well presented and maintained and has everything you need. The views out onto the grounds and hills in the distance are lovely too. All the different outdoor spaces are wonderful and the kids loved being able to play in the garden whenever they wanted and were very excited to have the trampoline and tennis court. They also liked seeing the pigs and chickens!

This was our 3rd visit to Broughtons Cottage and did not disappoint. Jo and Simon are the perfect hosts and the cottage and gardens are idyllic for a relaxing break and base to explore the Forest of Dean and surrounding areas. A delicious welcome basket and beautiful flowers on arrival were much appreciated. Highly recommend this wonderful cottage.

Tips:

The Red Hart Inn, Blaisdon for great food and service. Wine tasting experience and excellent food at Three Choirs Vineyard, Newent. Segway Experience in Forest of Dean. An amazing bakery in Longhope - The Forest Bakehouse.

10th June 2019:

Without doubt a most beautiful location and setting. The cottage is comfortable, very clean and well stocked with all that is required for upto four people to stay. On arrival milk, eggs bread, tea and coffee is there to immediately refresh you - including four very scrumptious 'chocolate brownies' which soon disappear! More importantly the host and hostess are charming, friendly and very helpfull. If there must be a downside it is the intermitant WiFi signal(geographic location) but this in itself is a plus because if you realy want to chill and relax why be bothered with it.

Tips:

Within a fairly small radius there are many sites of interest as well as the forest itself. For retail theropy Chepstow, Monmouth, Ross on Wye give a limited opportunity for interesting purchases. There are a number of good restaurants and cafes as well as many village pubs serving good quality food.Too many to mention here but most can be found in local directories.

A lovely, clean and comfortable cottage which was well equipped, warm and had plenty of hot water. Very comfortable beds. Beautiful gardens for all the family to enjoy. We loved the tennis court and the enormous trampoline! A warm welcome from Jo on our arrival, with a basket of delicious treats. We hope to stay again. Thank you.

Tips:

We loved canoeing down the River Wye from Kerne bridge to Symonds Yat. Also really enjoyed the mountain biking at the Forest of Dean. We hired bikes from Padalabikeaway who were very helpful.

It was pure joy staying at Broughtons Cottage. The views from the gardens are splendid and there is so much space for the children to run around. Jo and Simon are friendly, helpful and the welcome pack means you can sit down and put your feet up straight away with tea and cake! The cottage itself is beautifully presented. It is spacious, clean and warm with everything you should need and the beds are comfortable. If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is it!

Tips:

We especially enjoyed our visit to Mallards Pike lake in the Forest of Dean. It is a lovely place for a picnic. The woods are ideal for cyclists with wonderful tracks throughout but in the end, our highlight was a trip to Goodrich Castle, which my teenagers also enjoyed.

Such a lovely comfortable cottage. Great customer service/communication from the Jo and Simon. Jo's superb brownies and the loaf from the excellent local bakery were an unexpected delight. Jo and Simon generously allow you to wander around their beautiful gardens with amazing views, meeting the two friendly pigs and varied chickens.

Tips:

We went for the Severn Bore - and seeing this was a doddle - the river is just down the road with several great place to see it. We went twice to Minsterworth church where the ladies serve tea, homemade biscuits and bacon butties. You MUST go to the Lyon at Westbury on Severn, for pub food prices you can get an excellent fine dining meal from an incredibly talented young chef. The Forest Bakehouse at Longhope is also a MUST great bread, including sourdough, and the best croissants we've tasted this side of the Channel

What a lovely place to stay. Very clean, with everything you need. Location is perfect, very peaceful but also plenty to do in the area. Jo and Simon were very welcoming. A welcome pack was waiting for us when we arrived, with homemade brownies and freshly made bread. It was a very reasonable price for a 3 night stay. I would highly reccomend this beautiful cottage to anyone.

Tips:

The Miners restaurant in Sling is great for food. I would reccomend a visit to puzzle wood, the sculpture trail in Coleford, Clearwell caves and Symonds Yat.

Broughtons Cottage is absolutely beautiful, it was spotlessly clean and had everything that you could ever need. The welcome hamper with homemade cake, free range eggs & flowers from the garden is a lovely idea. Jo & Simon were super friendly & made us feel very at home. I would highly recommend a visit & we will definitely be returning again.

Tips:

Jo & Simon have provided a file with lots of info regarding places to eat etc. There is also a file full of leaflets all about the area and places to visit. Personally, we loved Puzzlewood, Clearwell Caves and Goodrich Castle...

This was a great place to stay with an exceptional lovely garden including tennis court and trampoline for the children. They also very kindly allowed us to charge our electric car by plugging into one of their outbuildings. Overall we'd thoroughly recommend staying here and if we are ever coming back to Gloucestershire hope to stay here again.

Tips:

Favourite family activities - cycling the circular family cycle route in Forest of Dean, visiting International Centre for Birds of Prey, and the butterfly zoo at Symmonds Yat West. Best meal out was at Ye Old Ferrie Inn in Symmonds Yat West.

25th September 2017:

We love the cottage and everything about it and the only teeny-weeny feedback I might offer with regards anything to the contrary (and I mention it with good heart)is that one of two small kitchen items are showing some wear and tear. The smaller frying pan sticks now where the black non-stick covering is no longer there, one of the knives in the knife box has a handle that's coming loose (the screw side of it is coming out)and the little cafeteir also comes apart quite easily now but I'm sure these tiny things are also a sign of the popularity of the cottage.

Tips:

A lot of tips of places to see and eat are already flagged up in the large blue folder at the cottage. I'd quite enjoy a 'book of recommendations' from previous visitors although these sometimes appear in the visitor book. I love knowing what local festivals or events are on and tend to do my own research before I come. I guess if something's on locally the week someone comes to visit it might be nice to have a leaflet or a note about it. I spotted a book festival once in Ross-on-Wye happening after I'd been but I left behind the booklet in the blue folder for anyone else who might be interested. I heard about Giffords Circus through the lovely owners of the cottage! Now that would be a nice event to have flagged up for those who haven't come across them before. I've also found that places like the Taurus Arts Centre regularly hold events and workshops, some aimed at children and we went along one time to their ukulele festival (for all ages) and that was well worth seeing.

We had a fantastic week in this lovely, clean, well-equipped cottage. A warm welcome, delicious goodies basket, cosy cottage and fabulous views, we couldn't have asked for more. Thank you Jo and Simon for letting us stay and we hope to return in the future.

Tips:

The trees and plants in the gardens are a delight and a daily stroll around them was so relaxing. A lovely cottage, part of a really pretty property. Great location, with so many things to see within a 30 minute drive. Very helpful owner, although we never needed to trouble her. A truly wonderful, much needed week.

Tips:

The White Hart at Broadoak was our favourite eating out place. Huge sized portions, and whilst it is not cheap when you first look at the menu, you really do get value for money. I defy anyone to eat three courses! In fact, at first, we could not finish two. After that we just stuck to one. Beware - finding a pub doing evening meals on a Sunday was a little tricky. The first five we tried were all finished for the day by 4pm. The area is full of attractions for lovers of nature, history, science etc and you can get a full week's worth in without driving more than 30 minutes to get anywhere. Very pretty area. Will return!

Great cottage, clean, homely, everything catered for, fantastic welcome basket, lovely hosts. Cottage situated in a beautifully picturesque and peaceful area with lovely garden and tennis court.

Tips:

Would recommend the Red Hart Inn at Blaisdon and Saracens Head at Symonds Yat East for meals out. Taurus Crafts had a lovely tearoom, shops and great crazy golf! Puzzlewood was AMAZING, truly magical and a must see, but only for the physically agile! Eastnor castle near Ledbury was a great day out, beautiful grounds and lots of different events going on throughout the year - Highly recommend the LandRover experience, lots of fun. Also the views from Symonds Yat Rock were stunning and with a good selection of walks round the area.

This was our second visit to Broughtons Cottage and again it did not disappoint. The cottage is spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. It is very peaceful, surrounded by beautiful gardens and countryside. We received a great welcome pack of homemade cake, freshly laid eggs and local produce which we very much enjoyed. Jo and Simon are very welcoming but unobtrusive hosts. We would highly recommend both the cottage and the location which is ideal for visiting the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley.

Tips:

For eating out we would recommend the Red Hart Inn at Blaisdon. Highnam Court Gardens is worth a visit (first Sunday of the month during summer) as is Newark Park (National Trust). There is an abundance of walking and cycling trails in the forest.
